Her promise to Alpha Gabriel did not go so well on her first day at school, not that she was the trouble maker and personally Adira was not happy, wanted to fight back, but she knew she was being watched, so all she could do was walk away… yet walking away did not always work for her. Even if she had, those that were not willing to be kind followed her and so she had to do something. It taught them not to mess with her, but it did cause her to be called to Alpha Gabriel’s office the moment she returned from school.
Nobody else was in the room, and he had requested for her to sit down. Never in front of the leader had she been offered to sit down, not even with Lord Vincent, even if he was the man who bought her up from a baby. She could tell that Alpha Gabriel was not happy with what happened, but it seemed that he was willing to hear her side of the story. She told no lies. She was not sure whom they were, but she explained the students did not like her, called her names and harassed her. She told him she walked away and yet they followed, throwing food at her and bowing her head she said she had turned around and threw food back and then punched one of the students who had tried to grab her.
They had no reason to have started with her, and yet, it seemed to have spread around the school that she was some homeless rouge and they did not think she belonged there. She did not want to keep being pushed around and treated like that, so she had done what she had, in hopes they would leave her be. Alpha Gabriel claimed he understood her reasoning but was not too happy that she did do it. He warned her, that something like this was not to happen again. Adira hoped it would not, and she left his office feeling like she had failed.
All her life she had tried to please Lord Vincent and do as he asked of her. She wanted to do the same here, seeing as they were keeping her in their territory, but she had already failed. Letting out a sigh, Adira walked through the pack house, feeling very lonely and not sure if she really wanted to stay if that was how she was going to be treated, Adira went out to the back garden, to the tree. She found her stick and she started to do her training, once again by herself.
A couple of hours later, sweaty from her training, Adira went up to her room and had a shower. She wanted to go for a walk into the town, to find a job. She had promised she would and she was going to keep that promise to the Alpha. With a knock on her bedroom door however, her plans were interrupted. She walked over, confused and opened the door. Leaning on the wall across the hall she saw him standing there, Sebastian. He was the future Alpha. She really did not want to see him, since coming out of the hospital she had avoided being around him. It seemed, she could not do so forever and she had to face it.
“So much for listening to my father.” He remarked.
“I did my best.” She said looking at the ground.
“You need to cool down.” He told her. “People will hate you otherwise.”
“I think they already do.” She replied.
“Look up… I know you are not that scared of me.” He stated.
“You know nothing.” Adira said in an undertone.
Before she could move, Sebastian shifted, crossing the space between them and standing right before her, hand to her chin and lifting up her head. He was forcing her to look him in the eyes. Adira was not comfortable by this, her heart racing and fear gracing through her. She wanted to back away, the thought of how James had treated her and the things he said before she left the Semen Coven flashed before her eyes and slightly frightened she quickly pushed Sebastian away from her, finding a gap and slipping past him, so she was not in the hall.
Adira gave him a quick glance and then with a shiver that ran through her back, she turned and started to walk quickly away from him, leaving him by her open door. She heard the sound of the door closing and very quickly footsteps of Sebastian trying to catch up with her. He grabbed her arm before she got too far and stopped her in her tracks. Quickly she pulled her arm from his grip, and while she did not walk away from him, she still did not meet his eyes.
“Where are you headed?” He asked. “I am on watch this afternoon.”
“I am following orders.” She replied in a mumble. “I am going to get a job.”
“Why are you so passive right now?” Sebastian asked her confused. “I thought you were a smart tough chick who did not put up with shit.”
“How else will I make people leave me alone. It does not mean I am always so… aggressive.” She said truthfully. “So do not judge a person on just seeing a few things.”
She glanced up, eyes meeting. They were silent for a moment she could see the thoughtful look that came over his face. Adira did not want to keep up this discussion and so instead, she turned, knowing he would be following and she walked down the stairs, through the pack house and out the front. Adira did not know much about the town and her plan was to just go for a walk and see what she could find.
Things… really were not that easy though. Word was surely getting around about her, even when they apparently weere tyring to clain she was a distant relative. The pack, were starting to figure it out, and judge her. She was a strange girl who had fought guards, lived with Vampires and then sucked blood from a werewolf. It was clear people did not trust her at all and she did not blame them. She was still new around the town and she had not really proven how she could be trusted. Even so, she never gave up. Maybe some times she was too nervous and passive when speaking with a business owner, but she would not give up. She tried everything, from café’s to hairdressers. To the shopping centre and some shops there. She had the skills, but not the willingness of the Redmoon Pack giving her a chance.
Sebastian went around town with her, trying to make conversation, but she always cut things short, not wanting to get too involved in anything. She did not like talking about herself, or her time with the Semen Coven. She did not think they would like her much when they found out what she did there. She knew it would make them not understand her and they would not trust her either, so she could not say much at all.
As the evening started to sink in, there were only a few places left. Not many, but Adira had one idea. There was one person in town that may be willing to give her a job, or at least something to do to help out, so she could prove to them all she could work hard and she could get a job in their pack. She went straight to the Pack Hospital, going through the main doors and asking the desk if she could speak with Doctor Shelt. They wanted to know if she had an appointment, which she did not. Sebastian had almost spoken up, told them he was with her, but before he finished his sentence, she had turned and glared at him and he stopped speaking right away.
The nurse told her Doctor Shelt would be advised she had come to see him, but there would be wait time. She did not mind and found herself as seat to wait in. The hospital did not seem too busy or noisy, yet as the head doctor he could be doing anything that was keeping him from meeting her. She could tell Sebastian was bored waiting around, and she had hissed to him that he could leave. He refused and would not let her out of his sight… clearly he did not trust her.
Two hours later, and a few grins and snickers from Sebastian likely due to mind linking someone to pass time, Adira saw Doctor Shelt approaching her. He looked warned out, but smiled when she stood up and greeted him respectfully.
“What can I help with child?” he asked.
“I am looking for work. I have skills and I can help out here. I would like to apply… and if needed I can make you a resume.” She said with nerves.
“Hired.” He said.
“What?” both Adira and Sebastian said at the same time, shocked.
“I would be happy to have you work with me young lady. I think there is more to you then what a first glance gives and I think you will have some skills for this place. So yes, I will hire you and you can start tomorrow afternoon after school.” He told her at once.
“Thank you Doctor Shelt. I really appreciate this.” Adira told him with a grateful smile.
“Not at all. You did me a favour when you saved Joseph, this is my way of repaying you, by now helping with your need.” He claimed.
“But you helped me get better.” Adira stated obviously.
“That was a part of my job, you saving Joseph was not a part of yours.” He said. “Come in tomorrow and I will teach you what you need to know.”
“Again, thank you.” She said pleased.
After a few more words, Doctor Shelt turned to go back to attend to a patient and Adira knew that was her queue to leave. She did not say anything to Sebastian, knowing that he would just follow her like before. It was a little annoying, but she could not say anything against it, considering this was the Alpha’s request, somebody to watch her at all times. Trying to not think about it, Adira had it in mind to head back to the pack house and be done for the day.
He had other plans. Before she walked too far down the road, Sebastian who simply mostly walked a few steps behind her now caught up and walked in front of her, looking at her, making her having to stop in her walk and looked up at him with a raised brow, a questioning expression.
“Come with me somewhere.” He suggested.
“Why should I trust you?” Adira said uncertain.
“The same reason I am trusting you.” Sebastian replied, sending her speechless. “Did not expect that one did you?”
“No…” she mumbled looking down at the ground.
“Ok, so come along with me.” Sebastian said with a grin.
Before she could respond, he had reached out, grabbed her hand and started to pull her along with him. Adira did try to wiggle her hand out of his, but it was too tight and she had no choice but to follow along. He was tall, much taller than she was. Looking at him, she knew he was at six foot six and with his mouse brown hair and green eyes that held a ring around them, he was indeed a good looking person. Born to be an Alpha, he was impressive, strong and skilled. It was no wonder she had seen lots of girls fan clubbing over him when she had gone to school. She on the other hand… did not fan club. She needed to be careful and do the right thing.
Sebastian led her to what looked like a teen hang out spot. It was at a café, but no adults graced within the walls of the café. Tables were full of werewolf teens, the air was full of cheer and laughter and happiness. Adira did notice though, the moment Sebastian and she walked in, things fell quiet and nobody moved. They were staring at them, many different expressions on their faces. Sebastian leaned over and placed his mouth near her ear.
“Forget what they think right now. They are just as scared and confused as you are.” He whispered. “Once people get to know you, they wont care.”
Adira did not say anything, she heard what he said, sure that others heard what he said that were close enough. Instead, Sebastian greeted everyone as a whole and then made his way to a corner of the café where Adira slowly followed. She saw he weas headed to a table that was crowed with his friends. Maximus and his mate Stacey who was sitting on his lap while he whispered things in her ear. Nathanial and Kinley sat there as well and some other students from the school that she knew hung with their group but really did not know any of them well.
“Hey hey!” Sebastian greeted them all.
“What’s with the Vamp girl?” one of the other girls with curly brown hair asked unhappily.
“I am on watch duty.” Sebastian said with a shrug. “And why not, why can she not join us. How else will she know how awesome this pack really is.”
“Darn straight!” Kinly laughed. “Adira, take this seat and join in. We wont bite, we’ll play nice, just for you sweety.”
Adira cringed, she had learnt that while Kinley was a six foot two, blonde haired, grey eyed warrior in training, and his father was brutal, he was a very friendly and bubbly person. When she still had been in the hospital, he would always talk to her… did all the talking actually. He did apologise to her the way his father had treated her, being Delta Daniel and the main torturer in her prison stay, worse then Beta Luke. Yet Kinley promised her he would not do the same. She did not think he would do anything without real reason, but she still felt nervous around him.
Sebastian shifted her forward, putting her in the seat offered, knowing she was clearly hesitating on the offer. He gave her no chance to say no and as soon as she was sitting, he was taking the last chair next to hers. She was stuck between him and Kinley and feeling very out of place, she placed her hands in her lap and looked down, not really sure about doing this.
“Adira… hey.” A voice broke her thoughts, looking up to see Stacey looking at her. “So… I really just want to hear it from you… did you really live with Vampires before here?”
“Yes.” She said softly.
“Crazy!” one of the others said sounding impressed.
“Are they as blood sucking as they claim to be?” Stacey asked curious.
“Worse….” Adira replied with a mumble.
“So how did you survive then?” the curly brown haired girl asked.
“Not your business Willow.” Sebastian spoke up in a warning tone.
“I just want to know… how is it even possible?” the Willow girl asked.
“Do you disobey your Alpha’s orders?” Adira asked softly not looking up though.
“Of course not.” Willow said with a prideful shake of her head and grin on her face.
“Then keep that in mind when you think of how a Vampire Coven works. They follow their Lord as much as you follow an Alpha.” She answered seriously, dangerously.
The table fell into silence, the girls sitting there thinking about her words. She was not expecting much of a reaction from the guys, they likely already knew this information, considering they knew a bit more about her then the rest did.
“OKAY….” Maximus said dragging out the word for a moment. “What shall we eat?”
“I feel in the mood for a large steak!” Kinley grinned.
“I vote sweet potato fries!” Stacey said excitedly.
“Yes!” both Willow and the other girl said matching the excitement.
“Burger.” Nathanial spoke up.
“Burger and Steak!” Kinley laughed.
“Pig.” Stacey laughed at him, throwing some sugar at him.
“This warrior needs his food to keep strong!” Kinley laughed back.
“Adira… would you like anything?” Sebastian asked her.
“A bag of blood maybe.” Willow mumbled but they all heard.
“Maybe I can throw it on your head.” Adira warned.
She was not in the mood and with Willow’s pestering, she did not want to hang around. Yes, she had a strange past, but she did not deserve for those that did not know her to treat her in such ways. They did not know while Lord Vincent kept her safe from his Vampires… thing had never been easy for her.
She moved, to stand from her chair, deciding this was not for her and that she would just go back to the pack house and go to her room. However, she was stopped once again when Sebastian stood, blocking her way and in an Alpha tone told her to sit. She watched him for a moment and then with a deep breath she shifted to move back down to the seat. She did not make it all the way down, before arms from behind grabbed her in a big bear hug. Adira tensed up the moment the arms wrapped around her and she knew the intention had been good, but the feeling was not.
Turning, she quickly faced the hugger, finding it was Kinley who was giving her a big cheeky grin. It was clear he was just trying to help, but he was not in any way. Adira pushed her hands out, slamming them into his chest and shoving him away from her.
“Wow…. Sorry.” Kinley said looking very guilty.
“Never touch me.” She warned coldly.
“Ok…” he replied.
“Good.” Adira responded.
She finally sat down, all of their eyes watching her. She knew in their mind they had a massive amount of questions regarding the way she acted, but Adira was not going to give them any answers. It was not something she could actually explain to them, for them to understand. Maybe in time… right now… she did not trust these people.
Sebastian tried to smooth out the mood, by declaring he wanted a stake as well and with a rise of his hand, one of the servers came over and took their orders. Adira had not chosen what she wanted, but tyring to make up for his mistake, Kinley promised he would buy her meal and treat her to something nice. When the food came out, she found he had ordered her a chicken schnitzel with salad. It was odd how he had picked the food that she most likely would have eaten. Adira did not really like steak… the idea of it coming out raw or half raw by mistake made her stomach turn. She did thank him and he just returned it with a big cheesy grin. She could not deny, he was kind of likeable, in a big brother friendly way.
In the end, the evening had not been too bad, any time Willow seemed to be taking a dig at Adira one of the others would speak up. The other girl, Racheal, was not half bad and Stacey was pleasant. Adira did not give them much information, and after some time, they stopped asking her, realising it was not easy to break past her reserved shield. After eating, they sat around talking until the sky outside was dark. While everyone else went their own ways, unfortunately it left just her and Sebastian who would be heading back to the pack house together. It was not too far of a walk, but it was not easy to do, when she knew he was trying to guess things about her, but she did not want him too.
