Kane's thoughts - 2:17 AM
The manor was quiet now, Luna and Victor having retired to prepare for tomorrow in their own way. Kane stood alone in his study, staring out at pack lands that stretched away into darkness. Somewhere out there, his people were taking positions for a battle that would determine their future.
Funny, he thought, rolling a glass of whiskey between his palms without drinking. I spent my whole life preparing to be Alpha, and now that I am, all I can think about is how I might not live to see what comes after.
The irony wasn't lost on him. He'd become Alpha specifically to support Luna's choices, to give her the political backing she needed to forge alliances between species. And now those same alliances were about to be tested in the crucible of actual warfare.
