THIRD POV. A strange feeling pulled Dorothy out of sleep, not gently but sharply, as though something had dragged her consciousness back from a deep place she did not want to leave. Her eyes snapped open in the darkness of her room, and for a long moment she simply lay still, listening carefully to the silence around her. The house was quiet, almost unnaturally so, and yet something about that silence felt wrong, like the absence of sound was hiding something that should have been there. She was alone.
