KILLIAN'S POV. I didn't remember walking back to my room. One moment, I was standing outside the office. The next... I was pacing in my room. Back and forth. Back and forth. Again. And again. My room had become too small. Every turn brought Mother's words back. "You won't mate a woman you have no feelings for." I stopped. "...It was a slip of the tongue." The words sounded weak even to me. I rubbed a hand over my face. Why had I said that? Why that? For years, every conversation about mating had ended the same way. I didn't want a mate. I wasn't interested. End of discussion. Feelings had never entered the conversation. Not once. So why now? I exhaled sharply. "This is ridiculous." I wasn't developing feelings for Meadow. Or for any other woman, for that matter.
