Jason's POV Rumors of Vyve's behavior are not new to any werewolf pack in America. She is legendary for her antics at the Silver Moon pack but this isn't Silver Moon territory. Self-preservation usually kept her semi-contained while she visits other pack lands but now, she pretends not to even hear my warnings. A small crowd of higher-ranking wolves are forming outside of my house, my brother standing just outside of reach knowing how dangerously close I am to losing control. My wolf is fighting to come to the surface to defend his mate, our mate. "No wonder Sweet Wolf is so diffident. This is who raised her." he snarls. "If I knew Alpha was going to trade her for s*x anyway, I would have started cashing in on that much sooner! Good for nothing whore." was the final sentence. I could handle nothing else. Seeing red as I shifted and bit the first part of her I could reach. She attempted to make a fast get away before my jaws clamped down on her arm. Ripping it off, I wasted no time before going for her throat. Stopping her verbal assault gave my wolf an amazing sense of pride. The look on my mate's face when she stepped out onto the porch, however, was enough to bring everything to a grinding halt. I couldn't stop the whimper that escaped at the sight of my mate's tear-stained face. My usually reserved and hard to read mate, stood inches away, the most vulnerable I had ever seen her. My brother sprung into action, getting the body moved, ordering me to shower, and guiding my mate away from the blood-soaked entrance. Coming out of the shower, I followed the smell of coffee into the kitchen where my brother, Luna, and my mate sat at the table. Luna, bringing four mugs to the table, gestures for me to sit next to Ordinary. Unsure of her stance on the current situation, I wasn't sure how to begin. Surpressing my own desire to immediately grab her, using whatever powers necessary to make her feel something good, I pulled my seat back and stared at her. The Ordinary I'm looking at now appears to be nothing more than a shell of the woman who accused me of being inappropriate a few weeks ago. She sat there staring into the steam rolling off her mug like it would suddenly give her all of the answers she desperately needed. "Ordinary?" I began cautiously, "Sweet Wolf, I am so, so, sorry. I'm not sorry for my actions, as I will never hesitate to defend you. I am totally and completely sorry that it was your mother." Silence fills the room for a moment, all eyes on Ordinary as if she would bolt if we so much as blink. Slowly, she lifts her head to face mine. Without saying a word, she stretched her arms out to me. The tension in the air settles drastically as she allows me to cradle her to my chest. Rubbing small circles into her back, arms, legs, anywhere I could get my hands on, as I wait for her heart rate to come down some. Luna Micheals breaks the silence. "I am very sorry about the loss of your mother." "I'm sorry that was your mother." Alpha Micheals says almost in response. Punching him in the arm, Luna turns and glares at him, "What?!" he yells "Look, it sucks that Jason and his wolf took out your mom but she had no right to speak about you that way. He warned her several times to leave prior to his wolf taking over. She refused to listen. And the comment about trading your body for drinks was disgusting and uncalled for." Shooting my brother a warning growl, I tighten my grip around Ordinary as she tenses. "She wanted to what?" a small shocked voice sounded from between my arms. The tears start once again as the meaning sets in for her. She hadn't heard what Vyve had said, and now had something new to process on top of everything else. My wolf howls, there is no outward threat for me to take care of this time. I nod my head toward the door and thankfully, my brother gets the hint. He and the Luna say quick and quiet goodbyes before heading out the door. "Jason, I'm not upset with you..." Ordinary says into my neck. Her voice is so soft, without wolf hearing, I doubt I would be able to understand her. "I... Just... She was supposed to be my mom... She was supposed to love me... I don't understand why she didn't love me." I kiss her head before landing on just rocking her back and forth. "You weren't the problem. You know that, right? Grief in general is a terrible thing, but the loss of a mate is enough to drive some wolves mad. I believe that is what happened to your mother. She got lost in her loss." I reply all to knowingly. She looks up at me, eyes still full of questions that her body doesn't have the energy to ask. Her beautiful face marked with exhaustion and sadness. "Sweet Wolf, we have the rest of our lives for you to ask me anything and everything. I promise, I will always answer whatever you ask." I break for a moment to ensure she understands. "She may not have been capable of loving you, but I couldn't imagine not loving you now. Whatever you need, whatever you want, you only have to ask and it's yours." A tiny, content sigh is her only response and I feel all of her muscles relax. I carry my exhausted mate back to our bed, pulling her in as close as possible before falling asleep. I have no way of knowing if she heard what I said, but I know I meant every word.
