POV David
I woke with a start. My shirt was tangled tightly around my neck in a failed attempt to remove, though I don't recall trying to undress myself in my sleep. The feeling of it pulling around my throat had me yanking it over my head in mid panic before realizing how it happened. Seems Lauren couldn't get warm enough last night and managed to get under my shirt. This woman will be the death of me and yet there she was snoring softly under my freed arm and completely wrapped around me. I reached my hand up to feel her head and breathe a sigh of relief, her fever broke. I kissed her forehead and tried to free myself from the tangle of arms and legs.
"Mr. David" Carmen paused for a moment as she reached the doorway, but seeing the scene before her, quickly scurried the other way. "So sorry sir. I will start breakfast."
Glancing at the now empty doorway, I could not help but laugh. Maybe I should have mentioned to Carmen that I was sleeping with my house guest.
I picked Lauren up and headed for the shower. She was so latched onto me, then she'd just join me for a quick shower. As I walked to the bathroom, carrying Lauren, I kept thinking about how poor Carmen won't be able to look me in the eye for days now. I turned the water on, dropped my pants and gave one final attempt to set Lauren down but she just moaned and leaned into me. Just perfect.
I stepped into the shower, water cascaded down our bodies and she pushed off me in an instant. She stared up at me angry as all hell. I broke into a fit of laughter. She was so darn cute when she wanted to look intimidating. I cannot remember the last time I felt so happy. I went to wash my hair and body pretending as if I didn't see her there sulking. Seconds later, I heard a flush and I was hit with scalding water.
"s**t! That's hot." The scalding did not last long, but hearing the giggle outside the shower curtain, she's a firecracker all right. I opened the curtain and turned the shower head giving her a quick blast of her own medicine. She gave a little yelp and then I heard nothing else. When I finished I stepped out, but my towels and clothing seemed to have disappeared. Good thing I keep a spare under the sink.
I walked into the bedroom with the spare towel wrapped around my waist.
"If you wanted to see me naked, all you had to do was ask." I smiled at her and walked to my closet to dress.
Lauren looked disappointed, she stuck her tongue out at me and did here best to storm out of the room. She was just too cute when she tried to be angry.

POV David
It didn't take me long to get prepared for the day. Dressed and ready, I was headed towards the kitchen when I heard Carmen calling me.
"Mr. David!" Carmen's voice sounded unusually concerned.
I started down the hall and saw Carmen standing over Lauren.
"Mr. David, I don't know what happened. She was here when I came to tell you breakfast was ready." Carmen looked rather upset by the sudden disturbances in the house. In under 24 hours I had brought in a strange woman, required a doctor and now she laid unconscious in the hallway.
"Carmen, please prepare a hot tea and bring breakfast for Miss Lauren. She will take it in the master bedroom."
"Yes sir." Carmen looked relieved to have a task to dismiss her from this awkward situation.
"Lauren?" She looked up at me and raised her blood cover hand from between her legs.
"What's happening to me?" The sob that escaped her voice, was enough for me to take control. I pulled my shirt off and wrapped it over her body while lifting her into my arms.
"Lauren, do you remember anything from last night?" She didn't bother to lift her head, she just stared at the blood now staining my shirt. "You're having a miscarriage."
Her hand moved to her stomach protectively.
"Lauren?" I started a bath. "Will you be alright?"
Lauren didn't respond. She just laid her head against me. "Lauren?"
I just sighed, the life sized Lauren doll was back. I washed her clean, dressed her in the new night clothing Carmen unpacked this morning, and placed her back in bed.
"Lauren?" I smoothed her hair back while trying to get her to talk to me.
She looked at me and asked, "Did I kill my baby?"
"No. Lauren you loved your baby." I just wanted to comfort her. I never wanted her to hurt again.
"Did you kill my baby?" She sobbed out the words. She needed someone to blame.
"Yes." The r**e and beating caused Lauren to lose her child, but I couldn't allow her to blame herself. I could handle it, I should be blamed.
"I need you to go." Lauren whispered the words with so much venom I knew she wanted to strike out.
"I'll leave, if you promise to let Carmen take care of you." She needed time to heal, and time away from me, then so be it, but I refused to leave if she was going to hurt herself.
"LEAVE!" Lauren screamed.
"Promise me Lauren." I didn't budge from my place next to her on the bed.
Lauren was angry, but she knew I wasn't about to give into her demands unless she gave into mine. "Fine."
"Thank you." I stood and walked to the doorway. "Carmen could you please come here for a moment?"
Carmen came in with a tray of food.
"Carmen, I will be gone a week. Could you please stay with Miss Lauren and make sure she gets plenty of rest? She will need meals prepared, clothes laid out and medications given. Can you handle this?"
"Yes Mr. David." Carmen nodded.
"If you have any problems with her, call the doctor, then call my emergency number. I will check in daily."
David then leaned over to Lauren. "I'm sorry if I have caused you pain, that was never my intention, but if you wish for me to go now, I will leave. If you want me to stay, just say the words."

POV Lauren
Stay, stay, please stay! But my mouth stayed silent. I was angry. I knew why I miscarried. It was my fault but he took the blame. Now he was walking out of the room. I heard the doors closing as he left his own home to give me space. My heart was breaking, Carmen rubbed my back and tried to calm me but I couldn't control the tightness in my chest. Suddenly sobs came forward until I felt like I was choking for air.
"I can't breathe." I started to panic, reaching for my throat and gasping for air.
"Look at me Miss Lauren. You're having a panic attack. Look at me!" Carmen pulled my face to look me in the eye and then started to count. "One, breathe in. Two, breathe out. One, breathe in. Two, breathe out." Her hand started to rub circles on my back as I leaned forward trying to reclaim my control.
My body calmed and I started to settle. My sadness remained. I missed David, I wanted him back.
"Eat. You need your strength." Carmen set the tray on my lap. "Don't worry he'll return in a week."
Carmen walked out of the room and returned a few minutes later with water and a small cup of pills.
"The doctor said you have an infection. I will set the pills out with water after each meal." She set the small cup down on the nightstand. "I will make you a hot compress before your nap, it will help with the cramps."
At that, Carmen stood up and left the room. Sitting alone, I had no appetite. I took the pills and water offered and placed the food on the nightstand. Maybe I could sleep the week away.
