A maid stood nearby, treading carefully. "Sir, what would you like?"
"Go upstairs and pack Wendy's things. I want her out of this house tonight."
"No—you can't!" Wendy shook her head and dropped to her knees, clutching the baby. "It's the middle of the night! Where are we supposed to go? Cedric, you promised my husband you'd look after us. You can't go back on your word!"
"Move to the suburban villa for now. Once I find you a proper place, you'll move out of there too. As for looking after you and the baby—I keep my promises. I'll give you a sum of money. But from this day forward, I don't want to see either of you again."
