Under The Strobe Lights

The Oakridge High gymnasium had been transformed into a glittering winter-meets-autumn wonderland, though inside, the atmosphere was thick with humidity, bass-heavy music, and teenage excitement. Streamers crisscrossed the ceiling, and the dance floor was packed with a moving sea of formal wear and sparkling dresses. Maya Lin stood near the chaperoned snack table, wearing a sleek emerald dress that was miles away from her usual button-down council uniforms. Her fingers traced the rim of a plastic cup of punch.
