Nelly's POV
The pain didn't come all at once. It came in dribs, like somebody was holding very sharp scissors slicing through my intestine. The pain was nothing to write home about, that I clutched my stomach with my left arm bending towards my knee.
I was now sitting on the title, leaning my back against the best frame which had provided support to my aching body. But now the pains seemed to have subsided, when I looked up at J.J, who was still standing there, arms folded, and jaw tightened.
Then I mustered the courage to ask him if things could have been different if I weren't from Braze Rock Pack, with the hope of getting a response that could have comforted me & relieved my pains. But the words that escaped from his throat even doubled the pains.
“Even if you had come from a different pack, I still wouldn't have loved you," "You couldn't have been anything but a friend to me, he said”.
That was his word, the one that sent a very shocking wave through my brain, like I was electrocuted, that my head spins, it felt like the room was upturned and the tears which seemed to have dried up, all rushed out of my eyes again with full force.
But no matter how much I might still try to explain myself further to him, no matter how much I might still want to beg, he was never going to change his mind, not for one bit. So I managed to put myself together, because sometimes in life, if you really want to achieve an inner peace, you must be willing to give up, even that which you cherish most. So I comforted myself, as I lifted one side of my cloth, and dried those tears.
I had to make a tough decision, one that was hard for me to decide on. I gradually turned to face the bed, bracing both my hands on it, to support my legs that were already weak, as I slowly rose to my feet and steadied myself on the ground.
I could feel my legs and hands still shaking as I drifted to the drawer, at the head corner of the bed. Inside the last shelf of the drawer lies the pink ribbon, a red handle, scissors, and other stuff.
The ribbon has been there ever since we got married, the one which symbolizes our bond and union. The ribbon that was used to bind our wrists together in the marriage that none of us consented to, has turned out to be a prison to me.
I dipped my hand inside it and picked the ribbon together with the scissors. I turned to J.J, holding the ribbon in between my two fingers in my left hand, and scissors on my right hand. As I drew closer to him, J.J, who was still staring at me, I believe he must have been wondering what I was about to do with those things.
"J. J, I said”, and my voice came out clearer than I felt.
"If I truly mean nothing to you, then there's no reason for us to remain bound in this false union. I understood that it wasn’t your decision to be in this marriage, and I have turned to be a thorn in your flesh, but it is high time I freed both of us from this bondage, so you could be free to go for any woman that will heal the wounds in your heart, the ones you believed that I inflicted on you."
That was when he looked at me, with little sense of shock, but my heart bleeds, knowing that if I broke this bond, it would be all over between me and him, and to remember how he came through for me in that lonely forest, how he risked everything coming to save me even broke my heart the most, because I felt that maybe things could have been different if what befell on his people and pack, didn't happened, Which made him shut me out of his heart, Even though he has made it loud and clear that he was never going to have me as his wife, but beneath his words, I still sense some sorts of lies.
But right now, I have come to the conclusion that I don't have to live all my life proving my innocence to somebody who doesn't really give a damn about it.
So I lifted the ribbon slightly above my eye level, where he could also see it clearly. With a voice which now seems to be a bit clear and louder, but my hand still shaking,
“I Nelly Mac from the Braze Stone pack. "Today, henceforth, I reject you, J. J Stone, the Alpha of the Lion Heart pack, as my mate and husband," I declared”.
And then split the ribbon in two, and released it as each piece flew and rested on the tiles, like it held no meaning to either of us.
Then he looked at me with his eyes burrowed, like I had just done the last thing he ever thought I could ever have done.
“Well, if that is what you want, you have it then, but I don't think doing this was even necessary, “he said”.
I may have rejected him, but our breaking of bond won't be completed if he doesn't in turn reject me, so I must get him to reject me too, I said to myself.
“.J.J, you…know, you too have to reject me” for this to be completed, “I said” in my usual calm manner.
He just looked as me and pulled his face away,
“You have already done it”, so what else do you want? “He asked”.
As if he was now blaming me for taking such a decision.
The break of our bond will not be completed unless you in turn reject me, J.J, so please, you have to reject me.
Then he glared at me.
“If that will make you happy, fine, “I will just do it."
Now turned completely, facing me and looking into my eyeball.
“I, J. J Stone”, the Alpha of the Lion Heart Pack, stand today to reject you” Nelly Mac of the Stone Braze pack as my mate. He declared”.
I may have been the one who initiated this breaking of this bond, but his words struck right at my chest like a rocket.
But just as he turned, and was about to open the door and leave, it felt like something hit him in the chest, as he bent down with pale in his face, grabbing his chest with his left hand while his right hand was still on the door handle. As he groaned in pain, then turned and stared at me for some minutes, when a word I believe he must have been struggling to hold back finally escaped his throat.
“You… are… my mate!”, f**k, what have I just done!? He said”.
Pointed his right finger at me, and was still slightly bending in pain with his left hand still grabbing his chest as he shaked his head in disbelief.
