During the time that James and I were waiting in the lobby, I became increasingly aware of the anxiety that was building up inside of him. After spending so much time listening to him worry about Caroline, it was abundantly clear to me that he had used up all of his potential solutions to the problem. I attempted to lift his spirits by placing my hand on his shoulder and giving him a feeble smile to show that I would always be there for him no matter what the situation was. Giovanni's arrival at the emergency room, carrying a cup of coffee with him, came as a relief to everyone else there. Giovanni is the kind of person who is always able to make a challenging situation seem a little bit better. He has this uncanny ability.
