Chapter 2

I immediately felt strong, steady arms around me, lifting me. I opened my eyes and saw the man who caught me, and my breathing paused. He was very handsome. His grey eyes and blond hair were the perfect combination. “Beautiful,” I muttered under my breath. He lifted me with such ease as if I were a feather. From the way his arms were around me, I could tell he was lean but strong enough to throw a jaw-shattering punch. “Are you usually this clumsy, or did you decide to give the ground a taste of your skin?” He asked a smirk plastered on his face. This was the same voice I had heard inside the wedding venue and at the bar. Now I was pissed again. “Is that supposed to be funny? Sorry, I forgot to laugh.” He erupted into laughter, then looked at me, still laughing, “If looks could kill, I’d probably be dead right now. You are quite the character, and I think I like that.” Like that? Was he trying to be smart, or was he just mocking me? “Let’s get you home,” he finally said after staring at me for what felt like an eternity. “What?” I squealed as I tried to peel myself away before my body betrayed me. He held me firmly and steadied me to the ground. Then he lifted my head with his index finger, and I got lost in his eyes. They were a shade of grey that made enemies quake within meters of him. But I could sense they had also seen the world bloodied and painful. I wanted to find out the secrets they beheld. My body immediately leaned into his touch. “Good girl. Someone will bring your truck while we ride in my car.” He led me into his car, which had gotten there while we were in our bubble. It felt awkward that my body was feeling such a way with him, when I hadn’t been with anyone but Nathan. ___ “Thank you for bringing me home. But how did you know where I stay?” I asked as the driver pulled up in front of my house. He told the driver to excuse us, and he got down and stood a few feet away. “What if I told you I had been watching you for some time now?” he asked. “Excuse me, what do you mean watching me?” I asked, my confusion building up. I had never seen this man around. He definitely wasn’t a part of our pack. So how could he have known about me, let alone watch me. “Nathan had said you might be a hindrance to this wedding and had asked the association to keep an eye on you,” he said, and waited for me to take it in. My breath held, “Nathan did what? I don’t believe you. He would never do or say such a thing.” Then he brought out his phone and played me a recording. It was Nathan’s voice saying the exact words I never believed he would say. My eyes welled up with tears. My wolf was wailing inside me. She had been quiet all day, but this new information grieved her as it did me. He gathered me in his arms and let me cry into his suit. I wanted to punch Nathan and his air-headed bimbo, but right now, I couldn't do much especially with the way I was feeling drowsy. Eventually, I succumbed to the darkness that had enveloped me. ___
