Chapter 3

Clarissa’s POV I woke up several hours later and found myself in the softest bed I could imagine. I stretched my hand and grabbed the sheets. The silkest I had ever felt. My wolf purred, and I knew she had a good rest after yesterday’s catastrophe. Then it dawned on me. This wasn’t my bed, and most definitely not my house. I remembered getting home, but not entering my house. I quickly opened my eyes and saw the same man from earlier sitting on a reclined chair and reading the paper. “Welcome back, Clarissa. I was thinking you had decided not to come back to the mortal realm again.” I grabbed one of the pillows and covered my face with it. Oh no, I was sleeping in the bed of a man whose first name I didn’t even know. I looked below the cover sheets and realized I had been changed out of my party gown from earlier. “Don’t worry, I had Eliza change you out of your former clothes.” He said and motioned to the chair in the corner. “They have been properly laundered, and you have a change of shoes too”. “Thank you so much, Mr...” I trailed off, hoping he got where I was getting at. Then he told me his name was Lucine Pine. “Hmm.. I think I have heard that name before.” I replied, scrunching my brows in deep thought. Then, realization hit me, and my eyes widened. “It’s you... I know you.” I gasped and began to move from the bed. He finally closed his paper and turned to look at me. “You know me?” He asked. “Well not know you, but I have heard of you,” I clarified while slowly walking to the sofa that held my dress from the previous day. I could swear I saw him smirk, but it vanished as immediate as it had come. He stood up and started walking towards me slowly like a predator stalking its prey. I couldn’t move and just stood grounded on the spot. “Pray tell how you know me.” “Your family, the Pine Family, are the head of the Lycan Association. Your father was the former chairman, but passed away some years ago. His first son, Bard, was killed under mysterious circumstances over a decade ago, and his second son, Lucine...” I trailed off as the in-depth realization hit me. “I’m listening, you weren’t quite finished.” Damn it, how could I not tell that the smell of his wolf was different? Like from an undiluted bloodline. He was the head of the Lycan Association and CEO of the biggest multi-billion-dollar industry in the city. The name was popular, but the face, not so much. “I’m so sorry for not recognizing you and adequately showing you more respect, sir.” He was now standing in front of me. I bowed my head, but with his index finger lifted it from my chin. “Please don’t call me sir. My name is Lucine, but I would rather you call me Luc,” he said. “Alright Luc. Please, I would like to take my leave now.” The tension between us was too tight, and honestly, I needed some air, because if I continued to be in such proximity to him, there was no telling what my wolf could do. I could feel her purring like she wasn’t still healing from the pain of earlier. “I doubt you can leave now,” he said, raising the curtain beside us, and I saw it was already dark. “Oh, don’t worry, I could drive my truck back.” He chuckled, and I felt my body tremble. He was making me feel some kind of way that my body and wolf liked but not my mind. “You don’t even know where you are right now,” he said as he moved to sit at the edge of the bed. He patted the space beside him and invited me to come sit with him. I dragged my feet on the soft rug in the room and gave some space before sitting. “So tell me all you know about me,” he said as he pulled himself closer till our shoulders touched. ___
