I was beginning to think he knew the effect he had on me and was properly utilizing it. Then, I decided to play his game with him. I took deep breaths and turned to him, our faces so close, we were practically breathing the same air.
“Well, from what I see now, I would say you are a playboy who doesn’t repeat his women.”
I got no reaction from him, then decided to press harder.
“I also heard you are strict with the type of women you bed. Only pure bloods, an untainted bloodline, or nothing.”
I saw his jawline tighten and his fists fold, as if I had struck a nerve.
He didn’t say a word, stood up, and walked to the door. “Goodnight, Clarissa Greystone. You leave for Brooklyn in the morning. My staff will get you ready.” He said and slammed the door behind him before I got any chance to speak further.
That night I barely slept. I didn’t mean to be so inconsiderate. I had expected him to reward my childish behaviour with his hearty laugh, but it seemed as though I had just made one of the most important men in the world my enemy.
I had to find him in the morning and apologize before leaving.

The following morning, I came out of the room I had slept in and began wandering the halls. I saw a maid and approached her to get information if Lucine was still home.
“He is in his home office Miss, although he doesn’t tolerate any sort of disturbance.”
I walked in the direction she had given me and saw a large double door with two men in suits standing on either side. One of them stopped me as soon as he saw me.
“You aren’t supposed to be here, little miss.” He said defensively.
“I just want to see Luc before I leave,” I replied, trying not to sound intimidated.
“How dare you address Chairman Pine like that?” he asked as he tried to push me.
“That’s enough Manuel, thank you. I’ll take it from here,” Luc said as he appeared from behind the previously closed doors.
“Good morning, Luc. I need to speak to you before I leave.” I said, almost before I lost my ability to speak. He looked so handsome in his deep wine colour suit as he looked at me with all seriousness.
“Good morning, Clarissa. Is all well? What do you need to speak to me about?” he asked, as he took long strides to the end of the corridor leading down the wide stairs adjacent to the house entrance.
I hurried after him.
“I just wanted to apologize for what happened last night,” he continued walking. “I honestly didn’t mean to piss you off, especially after showing me your kind hospitality. I’ll pay you back in any way I can, promise.”
He stopped at the top of the stairway, and I bumped into him, hitting my chest on his broad back.
My wolf purred like she had enjoyed that.
“Any way?” He asked, as if I had opened a deal I didn’t know of.
“Well, I mean, nothing is ever free, right? So yes, I’ll pay you back.”
He smiled like he had just thought of something I couldn’t get out of. The ride home was about to be the longest ride of my life. “Let’s get to the jet. I know exactly how you can pay me back.”
