Chapter 7

715 Words
Clarissa’s POV I heard a knock at the door, then checked my phone. It was 7:30. “Hmm, he is thirty minutes early. Thank God you are ready, let’s go.” Betty said as she grabbed my purse and held my hands as we walked to the door. We opened the door, and I saw the driver from earlier, Jackson. Betty whispered to me that he was the one who had brought the clothes from earlier. “Hello, Ms. Greystone, I am here to pick you up. The Chairman is waiting for you.” He said, gesturing to the car. Betty hugged me and told me to have fun. I got into the car, and Lucine wasn’t there. I felt disappointment spread through my wolf as she had been eagerly waiting to see him. “Apologies Ms. Greystone, he was still at the company when I left, but I’m sure he would have been done now.” He said, looking at me through the rear mirror. “It’s alright Jackson. Thank you.” ___ We got to Lucine’s office complex, and he was on a call, standing beside another vehicle, looking like he belonged on a runway instead of in an office. When my vehicle was parked beside his, he opened the door and extended his arm. “You look very beautiful, Clarissa. I’m guessing what I sent wasn’t to your liking. I apologize.” He whispered as he led me to the parked limousine. Jackson took the key from the chauffeur who was standing beside the driver’s seat and got in. As soon as we got inside, with the door closed behind us, I faced Lucine. “I don’t want you getting me things as though I need or asked for them. You have done enough for me already, and I appreciate it, but please stop. Thank you.” I said, trying to avoid his eyes because I knew I would have lost track of my words if I did. “I’m sorry that you think I’m pestering you, but it amazes me how much you think differently. But that won’t stop me from doing what I want to do.” I looked at him in anger and surprise, and as I was about to speak, his phone buzzed. “Hello, Michael..., Yes..., I didn’t give that go-ahead..., he is trying to play smart..., do whatever you want..., don’t bother me again.” He looked at the caller id and dismissed the call as if it weren’t an urgent situation. “Who was that?” I asked. He diverted the question. “About what you said earlier, in the likes of paying me back, I have a proposition.” He said, diverting the question and looking at me like I was going to go away if he blinked. “What is that?” “I have a conference in 3 days, and I want you to go with me.” I was about to protest, before Jackson’s voice filled the air, “Mr. Chairman, we are here sir.” Inside the restaurant was so beautiful. There were round tables, and there were individual booths. Lucine walked ahead to an individual booth and opened the door. He sat opposite me, facing the door, while I faced the wall art. The restaurant was empty. The waiter came to give us the menus, but Lucine didn’t pick one. It seemed like he already knew its content and was waiting for whatever I chose. I ordered, and Lucine went along with my order. The head chef came out and spoke to him briefly, then left. “This place is nice, but one is here,” I said, glancing around. You would think such a place would be flowing with so many customers. “Well, today isn’t peak hour, so be assured no one will see you here.” The way he looked at me made my body swoon, like I needed him near me, but couldn’t voice out the way I felt. I needed to stop whatever this was. Whatever I was feeling when he was around me needed to stop. The walls, I needed to keep these walls up for my good. “I need to use the bathroom. Excuse me.” I said, grabbing my purse.
