It was noon, in the study room.
"Muyou, let's go shopping!" Blood Fox pouted and jumped on the book that Dugu Muyou was reading. Blood Fox was now in the form of a cute little fox at the size of a hand.
Dugu Muyou was listless. She picked Blood Fox up from the book and dropped it nearby.
Blood Fox's attempt to grab her attention failed. It now lay on the table with a sullen look and mumbled in its heart.
"This is not good. Muyou has become a nerd after reading so many books! She's not even interested in such a cute and elegant fox like me. Such poor taste! After all, she's a foolish girl and it will only get worse."
Dugu Muyou sneezed a few times because Blood Fox had cursed her inside.
"Your Grace. Your humble servant, Blood Fox, would be 'honored' to have your permission to go shopping outside." Blood Fox stood up on the table with its hind legs and bowed with its front legs like a courtier in the palace. Dugu Muyou wondered where it learned all these from.
Dugu Muyou laughed with resignation, "Allowed. But don't connect me with your Bishui Lord!"
Dugu Muyou was used to Blood Fox's jokes after all this time. It would act like a clown or being cute to cheer her up from time to time. Dugu Muyou walked on the pedestrian street slowly, with Blood Fox sitting on her shoulder observing the surroundings curiously.
The stands, which sold all kinds of goods, were already opened for business. Dugu Muyou walked for a while and arrived at Treasure Market. The market was no bigger than ten acres but was the biggest and most comprehensive black market in the nation. It had all kinds of pawn shops, auction houses, stands, magical weapons, and pills.
"Why are we here! I want to go to the market that sells chickens!" Blood Fox held its hands on its head, looking depressed. It had discovered that many rich ladies and noblewomen liked it for its cute appearance. So, it took advantage of their fondness and brought them to the place that sold chicken. Seeing that the cute fox loved to eat chicken, the ladies brought many for it! What a life it was!
Since they were there, Dugu Muyou thought that they could have a look at it. Blood Fox, however, jumped off her shoulder silently and targeted a group of well-dressed ladies on the bridge.
Dugu Muyou looked around the shops along the street and suddenly, a tiny little hand had pulled her sleeve.
"Miss. Look at this Jade Pill. It's distilled from the essence of divine peaches which is good for your meridians and spirits. Not to mention that it's cheap and tastes good."
The good-looking boy that pulled her sleeve was no bigger than ten years old. He had a small stand by the street that sold pills.
Dugu Muyou smiled and said in a gentle voice, "Thank you. But I don't need it."
There were three classes of Pills. Top-class herbs could refine Top-class pills. While third-class herbs could refine third-class pills. Pills like Jade Pill were not even third-class pills. It sold well among kids because it's cheap and tasted good. What confused her was that why did the kid ask whether she needed it or not. After all, she didn't look like a child that would like it.
The boy was unyielding. His voice was cute in a way that a kid should be and looked at Dugu Muyou with his bright eyes. How could Dugu Muyou refuse him?
"Miss. You need it. It's Jade Pill."
Dugu Muyou smiled but said nothing. She just took out a small piece of gold and put it in the kid's hands and left.
The boy's stand was seldom visited by pedestrians. Dugu Muyou presumed that the boy wanted her to buy the pills because he was desperate to sell them.
"Didn't you just open your meridians?"
Dugu Muyou stopped and turned around. She looked at the boy with curiosity and waited for him to continue.
"Meridians that were opened by force must have been damaged. You need this Jade Pill to restore them. It's not the same pill that was celebrated among kids but a special one made by my master. He said that I must give the pills to a girl that recently opened her meridians."
"Your master?"
Just as Dugu Muyou was confused by the boy. He quickly shoved the bottle, which kept the pills, in her hand and left with his stand packed.
The jade bottle in her hand was beautiful and smooth. It was kind of cute so Dugu Muyou kept it in her pocket and moved on. She guessed that the boy shoved it to her because he didn't want to take the gold for granted.
She was shopping for a magical weapon called Golden Phoenix Lazurite Sword. It was a magical weapon made of Violet Gold and Cold Iron. The former material was extremely hot and the latter was cold. The blade of the sword had embedded the symbol of a phoenix. The sword was extremely beautiful and had great spiritual power. It had its own will and would choose its user. Those who didn't get its permission could never use it.
There were many great things in this world, but rarely could people see First-Class Magical Swords. This Golden Phoenix Lazurite Sword, however, was one of them.
Dugu City held all kinds of goods in the nation and people traded everything here. She decided to take her chance here. The dagger that Nangong Xun gave her was handy but could only be used in hand-to-hand combat. It's good enough, but Dugu Muyou wanted a better one.
Across the streets, Dugu Muyou arrived at the biggest magical weapon store in Treasure Market. The moment she entered, she was stunned by all the weapons exhibited in the store: the nine-section whip made of black steel, the red-tasseled spear, all the swords hanging on the wall, and all the materials on the counter.
Dugu Muyou looked from magical weapons to materials. She wondered if forging her swords with these materials would be simpler.
The Cold Iron was entirely black and had formed for more than a thousand years. It was so dense that a piece as big as a hand weighed three hundred pounds. After polishing, it could make the sharpest blade in the world and was therefore suitable for making swords or spears. The Ruby Gold, formed for more than ten thousand years, was suitable for crafting armors because it's soft but extremely hard. The Moonlight Jewel which was charming but looked cold was suitable to make whips.
Dugu Muyou glanced at these materials and her eyes fixed on a purple stone.
It was only the size of the fist of a kid. Glowing a flushed hint of purple, it was insignificant among the pile of magical materials.
"Good choice. You have found the most precious material in our shop." A well-dressed middle-aged man spoke with a smile and an exciting look. He glanced at this young girl who was wearing a splendid dress and shoes embroidered in gold and concluded that she must be rich.
Dugu Muyou blinked and lowered her head to look at the purple rock again.
The middle-aged man smiled, "This stone is called Violet Gold, a rare material, which can only be found under the water. I guess you know the Golden Phoenix Lazurite Sword. It was made of violet gold and cold iron. Violet Gold is too hard to be used in sword forging. But when it's mixed in other minerals, they became the hardest material. A single wave of the blade would cut iron into half."
Dugu Muyou was intrigued, "Do you know where this Golden Phoenix Lazurite Sword is?"
"You want this sword?"
Dugu Muyou was noncommittal. The middle-aged man smiled and asked her again after some time. Just now, the manager brought a customer inside and didn't come out yet. That was a regular customer, who might not mind it. After all, it would be the same anyway.
"Please follow me." The man walked in the front with a meaningful smile, "Golden Phoenix Lazurite Sword is one of the most powerful magical weapons. Every few days, some customers were trying to get the sword but none succeeded."
Dugu Muyou asked curiously, "Is it too expensive?"
"Ha-ha, at first it was indeed very expensive but then we gradually lowered its price to promote the sell."
"It was said that Golden Phoenix Lazurite Sword had its own will and would choose its own master. If no one ever got it, it's probably because no one has ever got the sword's acceptance." Dugu Muyou raised her head and smiled. She was only curious about it because she had read the few pages about it in the book about magical weapons. The illustration of that sword in the book was simple but somehow, she felt very familiar with it.
"You are right. A decade ago, when our manager just got this sword, someone had stolen it. But the horrible thing is that he died of a terrible death in his house the next day. Then, there were some more disasters caused by it. So, a rumor came to spread that it was not a magical weapon but an evil one."
"If it's in the right hand, it's a magical weapon. But those who wish others ill will turn the sword into an evil thing."
"Ha-ha, Miss Muyou has got a point! You're not only talented in cultivation but also have deep thought!" The middle-aged man was interrupted by a burst of laughter.
Dugu Muyou heard the voice and frowned. When she looked up, it was indeed the Fifth Prince. What an unhappy coincidence.
"Oh, it's Your Highness. How could you be here?"
Ji Chengyu ignored the coldness and indifference in Dugu Muyou's voice, "I've heard that Golden Phoenix Lazurite Sword was unparalleled in the world. Such a first-class magical weapon was condemned as a useless evil thing. I'm here to try if I can be its master."
He closed the hand fan and opened the door, "Miss Muyou. Please come in."
The room had little decoration other than the redwood table that held the legendary Golden Phoenix Lazurite Sword.
The sword had an extraordinarily bright color. On the blade made of black Cold Iron, there embedded the symbol of a golden Phoenix worshipping the sun. The eye of the Phoenix was made of a small Gold Embroidered Lazurite which was glowing golden light.
It was a Gold Embroidered Lazurite! Dugu Muyou couldn't help thinking of it. She thought it would be an ordinary Lazurite but it was a gold embroidered one. She only read about it in books that the most valuable thing of Golden Phoenix Lazurite Sword was that Lazurite. If a sword had that, it could be restored in your spiritual world and provide inexhaustible spiritual power. Therefore, every cultivator wanted it, but most people didn't get the acceptance of the sword and were killed by it. This led to the rumor that the sword was an evil weapon.
Most people thought Gold Embroidered Lazurite was a Lazurite, but it was not. It was a Magical Essence. This Gold Embroidered Lazurite was no bigger than one-tenth of a nail but was thousands of times more powerful than a normal Magical Essence. No wonder it was called a first-class magical weapon unseen in centuries.
Ji Chengyu noticed Dugu Muyou's expression and asked, "Miss Muyou is interested in Gold Embroidered Lazurite? There's a story about this Gold Embroidered Lazurite. It was said that it's condensed by a master in Honglie Mystery Land with all the Magical Essences he got. It's supposed to be an heirloom but no one knows why it has come to here."
"Honglie Mystery Land?" Dugu Muyou asked in an uncertain voice. He had heard about it from Nangong Xun. It was a nation comparable with Jinnan and Peach Blossom Mystery Land. It was said that Honglie Mystery Land was rich in spiritual qi and nurtured many monsters and masters. She wanted to have a look at it if possible. It's weird that she felt familiar with that name. It sounded so familiar that it almost seemed like she had lived in it.
