In the evening, Liu Pianpian and her daughters enjoyed supper together. The meal was lavish. Despite that Dugu Muyou had tasted the food of many places in the modern era, she couldn't help salivating over it.
Watching her daughters, Liu Pianpian was relieved, as even her youngest daughter could do cultivation now, let alone Dugu Qinglan. She believed that their life would be better and better. She was looking forward to the future.
"Qinglan, Muyou, come on, eat at will. You've been through a lot these days. You must be exhausted. It can help you recover."
She kept delivering food with chopsticks to their bowls, which embarrassed the two girls. Dugu Qinglan recalled her childhood, realizing that she would always be a child before her mother.
"Thank you, Mom. We know it. We're not kids anymore."
Words done, she remembered something else and said, "Muyou, if you want to do dan cultivation, come to my room for some recipes after this."
Dugu Muyou nodded at her. It was exactly what she needed now. The more, the better.
After supper, she followed her sister to her room.
"The books Mother gave you are basic, so are the recipes for dan cultivation." Dugu Qinglan took out a rosewood box. "Here are some amazing recipes. Once you've got the hang of dan cultivation, you can use them to make pills of higher levels."
Dugu Muyou took the box and scanned the recipes, which were of huge variety, including pills for healing and pills like Pill of Qi-Enriching as well as some other pills of special usage. How could such a tiny box hold all these recipes that an ordinary person could only dream about? Perhaps only a talent like Dugu Qinglan, who was highly valued by the family, could have it.
Dugu Muyou accepted the box and thanked her for being so considerate. After that, she went to her own room and checked the recipes carefully.
"Nine-Herb Pill of Qi-Enriching. This looks much better than the Pill of Qi-Enriching. Such pills are very helpful to my cultivation but can run out very fast. I need to make a lot of them. It's a pity that my level is too low. I need more experience for dan cultivation to make such pills."
Next, she weighed up those recipes and picked out useful ones. As to those for healing, she didn't need it. No pills of such kind could work better than the Yuehua Diamond, which could not only help her heal but also protect her from poison.
"Are there any recipes for making breakthroughs?"
She leafed through the recipes. With her eyes moving fast, she was trying to find what she wanted through the recipes in her hands.
However, after going through the recipes once, she didn't find it. As she, disappointed, was organizing them and about to put them back into the box, she let out, "Eh?"
"This is..."
At the bottom of the box was an envelope whose color was so close to that of the box that she almost missed it.
She picked it up and found it was sealed. It felt amazingly soft, apparently not made of paper. She had no idea about the materials. She reached inside with two fingers and took the stuff out.
It was a piece of light-yellow cloth, which was super thin and a little transparent. The material was as mysterious as that of the envelope. The script on it was clear.
"Pill of Remediation?"
She skimmed through the script on the light-yellow cloth and looked delighted when she finished.
It was for making breakthroughs. As its name suggested, it could remedy one's weaknesses. If one was about to make a breakthrough but couldn't find a way, this pill could help a lot. However, it was not that useful to people who were not at the rank.
She wanted to make some Pills of Remediation, but it might be difficult to collect the materials. She was still a green hand, and more than half of the materials listed on the method were strange to her.
The level of dan cultivation was also a problem. There were nine levels. The higher, the harder. But people at high levels were able to make good pills. To make a Pill of Qi-Enriching, one only needed to be at Level One. To make a Nine-Herb Pill of Qi-Enriching, one needed to be at Level Three. As for the Pill of Remediation, Level Seven was a must.
It was far beyond her reach, but every problem would be solved eventually.
She stored the recipes and started to practice her new cultivation method. It was late today, so she wouldn't do dan cultivation until tomorrow.
The next day, she got up early and went straight to the warehouse after a quick breakfast.
It was the treasury of the family. With thousands of years' collection, countless treasures had been stored there, and even the catalogs could be piled higher than an adult man. Certainly, there were lots of things in the warehouse.
With so many things, classification was a must. Right now, she was at the warehouse for materials for dan cultivation.
The guard was a grey-haired skinny old man, who was dozing on a bamboo chair in a small room at the door.
"He won't even know it if the whole warehouse is emptied by others," grumbled her in her heart.
Right after that, the old man suddenly opened his eyes. A wave of pressure flooded her, which made her forget his age and focus only on his power. He must have reached Heaven rank.
In the face of the pressure, her spiritual qi was excited at once, surging through her body. She seemed to be ready to fight.
The old man looked a little surprised. So, he increased the pressure.
It was doubled and reminded her of Dugu Zhong's power. She tried hard to suppress her desire to fight back. She was not here to fight with the guard, but to fetch some materials.
Blood Fox then suddenly came out of the Yuehua Diamond perhaps because it had sensed the threat.
It stood bolt upright and darted a glance at the old man. Next, it leaped forward, followed by a sudden decrease of the pressure.
The old man looked at it, astonished, but the latter was not interested in him. It suddenly sniffed at something and then walked pompously to the door. It kept sniffing at the bottom of it.
"Please open the door. Father said that I can use materials inside."
The old man stood up slowly, yawning, followed by a burst of clangs made by the keys hung around his waist. He randomly picked up a book on the table and tottered to the door.
"What do you want, Miss Muyou? I'll bring it to you. There're too many items, and you may not find it."
Dugu Muyou touched her forehead where the Yuehua Diamond was. "I'm afraid it's way beyond what you can carry. I'd better go and get it myself."
As Blood Fox clawed at the door heavily a few times, the old man didn't say anything. He took out the key and opened the door.
Towards them came a wave of light fragrance. Blood Fox hurried into the warehouse, running and sniffing. Having seen it be pretentious many times, Dugu Muyou was curious about its delight, which was rare, and followed.
The inside was huge. On rows of shelves were herbs, bones, and the Magical Essence of a large variety. There were also many strange things that she didn't know the names.
"Don't let it do that!"
The old man panicked. He was afraid that Blood Fox would break things. As he caught up with it, it was already eating a certain kind of herb.
He went red in the face, seeming to have been irritated. No longer sleepy as he had been at the door, he waved his hand, releasing a blast of spiritual qi towards it.
The latter, with its hair erected, flew into a rage, waving its claws at the enemy. There was anthropomorphic anger on its face. However, Dugu Muyou went to its front in a flash, releasing her green spiritual qi that protected it like a wall. As the Yuehua Diamond flickered once, some silver spiritual qi with golden flows surrounded her like a shield.
The old man was way more powerful than her. So, the shield was broken by his silver spiritual qi, which overwhelmed her like a flood. She spat some blood out of internal injury, though she looked fine from outside.
Blood Fox jumped to her front, wrathful, and spat some sparks, which died out soon. It fell onto the ground as if it had been exhausted.
"Why would you do that?"
The old man was annoyed seeing her be hit. He just wanted to give the fox a lesson, not her. If something happened to her, then he would be d*mned. Luckily, she had managed to survive his attack, though it surprised him a lot, for he had just used all his power. Did that mean he was too old? Or had he already lagged behind?
Dugu Muyou felt like all her bones had been broken. She couldn't even speak because of the pain from all over her body. But after the work of the Yuehua Diamond, she felt better.
She looked at him indifferently and said, "How dare you attack my spiritual animal?"
She cradled it in her arms and stroked its head.
"It shouldn't have eaten the herbs." The old man's looks lacked confidence.
"It's just some herbs. What's wrong with that?"
She grabbed some herbs from the shelf and delivered them to Blood Fox. Attracted by the smell, it started to eat. It was as smart as humans. So, the herbs must be useful to it, which was why it had just run over here.
However, the old man felt terrible. He was just there, watching her feeding a fox on herbs. He didn't dare to say anything.
The herb was important to the making of a kind of pill for healing, which could save lives but was expensive. Even ordinary people and those from small families couldn't afford it. They could only use cheaper alternatives. However, she had just given the herbs to a fox. How could he not feel terrible? But he couldn't do anything with the order of the Master.
After having some herbs, Blood Fox got some of its strength back. Seeing that, she carried a box of herbs, put it in its front, and let it eat at will.
"Miss... Miss Muyou, these herbs are worth about fifty houses in the city."
The old man's face twisted with regret.
