Kayden I awoke to a jarring sensation of something hard and icy against my skin. As I stretched my limbs, the faint glow of sunlight seeped through the tiny cell window, filling the room with a soft, golden light. My gaze wandered, and I found my sleeping mate huddled against the wall, cocooned in a warm blanket. The sight of her stirred a gentle flutter in my chest, and as if sensing my presence, she shifted in her slumber. Her eyes fluttered open and closed a few times before meeting mine, their gray depths captivating me. What the hell was she doing here? Did she know my secret? My head felt like a pressure cooker as the questions erupted inside, demanding answers. “Are you okay?” she asked, her concerned gaze fixed on me as if searching for answers amidst the chaos surrounding us.
