The next morning, I walked into the classroom feeling less nervous than I did yesterday.
Maybe because everything wasn't so unfamiliar anymore.
Or maybe because I was secretly hoping to see Adrian.
I immediately looked toward the back of the room.
He was there.
Sitting with his friends, laughing about something I couldn't hear.
When he noticed me, he raised his hand.
"Morning, Mia!"
I smiled.
"Good morning."
It was such a simple greeting.
But somehow, it made my morning better
.
I sat down and started arranging my notebooks
.
A few minutes later, someone tapped my desk.
I looked up.
Adrian.
"Can I borrow your pen?"
I raised an eyebrow. "You don't have one?"
He looked at his empty desk and laughed.
"I forgot."
I handed him mine.
"Thanks. I'll return it."
"You better."
He smiled.
"I promise."
During lunch break, I was sitting alone under a tree outside the classroom
I was scrolling through my phone when someone sat beside me.
I already knew who it was.
"You always eat alone?"
I looked at Adrian.
"Not always."
"Then why today?"
I shrugged.
"I don't really know anyone yet."
He nodded.
"Well, you know me now."
I laughed.
"Does that mean we're friends?"
He smiled.
"Of course."
For some reason, that word made me happy.
Friends.
We spent the rest of lunch talking about random things—our favorite subjects, the teachers, our hobbies, and the things we wanted to do someday.
I discovered that Adrian liked music.
He discovered that I loved reading.
"You read a lot?" he asked.
"Yeah. Mostly stories."
"What kind?"
"Romance."
He laughed.
"Really?"
"What's wrong with that?"
"Nothing. I just didn't expect it."
"Why?"
"Because you don't look like someone who believes in romance."
I crossed my arms.
"And what do I look like?"
He thought for a moment.
"Someone who doesn't trust people easily."
I became quiet.
He wasn't completely wrong.
Maybe he noticed the change in my expression.
"Sorry. I didn't mean to make it awkward."
"It's okay."
He smiled softly.
"You can trust me, you know."
I looked at him.
There was something sincere about the way he said it
"I'll try."
"That's enough."
The bell rang.
We stood up and headed back to class together.
As we walked, our classmates started teasing us.
"Oooooh! Mia and Adrian!"
I immediately shook my head.
"No! We're just friends!"
Adrian laughed.
"Yeah, just friends."
But when I looked at him, he was already looking at me.
Neither of us said anything.
We simply smiled.
At that moment, I thought our friendship would stay simple.
I thought he would just be the boy who helped me find my classroom.
The boy who borrowed my pen.
The boy who sat beside me during lunch.
I didn't know that he would slowly become someone important to me.
And I definitely didn't know that one day, I would look back at these ordinary moments and wish I could live them all over again.
Because sometimes...
You don't realize you're living your favorite memories until they're already in the past.
