Chapter 15 - Breakfast Together

Her eyes moved restlessly as the sound entered her ears and disturbed her sleep. Before long, those eyelids opened and revealed gray beads behind them. They hurried to find the source and found it was none other than Dave. Anna forced her body to move to eliminate sleepiness and laziness, which still hung onto her. Then she got up and walked over to him. Dave heard a voice, so he turned his head and said, "I must have woken you up." He worked in the kitchen with the stove, a pan, sausages, and eggs. Yes, he made a simple breakfast for them. Anna mumbled as she shook her head. "No. It's already morning, anyway." She pulled up a chair and intended to sit down. But she remembered something. "You need help?" He immediately gave a quick shake. "No. It's just toast and eggs. I can do these myself." Anna nodded in understanding and then resumed her activities. She threw her body pretty hard. And because laziness still held her, she laid her head on the table. "If you're still sleepy, you can continue your sleep," he said as he put the food on the table. The remaining were toasts to finish and milk. That would be a perfect breakfast. "I have to see Kate today." That might not be the correct answer, but it was related. She needed to meet her talent to discuss an advertising offer the day before. Kate was quite troublesome by refusing to attend the meeting with the brand. She only wanted to know the result. That caused her to go the extra mile to summarize and explain the meeting to her. Just working two weeks with Kate was already giving her a headache. How was the future? "Do you want me to accompany you?" Dave came back with hot toasts. One left. Milk or juice? It was refreshing to have juice in the morning. "Would you like some juice or milk?" he offered before returning to the kitchen. Anna turned her face away and mumbled. "Juice." So, that was how Saturday morning started with a billionaire's breakfast. "So, do you want me to come with you?" He repeated his question when Anna ignored him even after he returned with a bottle of juice and two glasses. Anna looked up slightly at the figure beside her. Dave looked tall and smelled good. That was the smell of his breakfast, and it made her stomach growl. "Sit up straight and let's have breakfast," Dave gave an order at that. Oh, he was like talking to a child. And her response was the same as a child obeying his father. She sat up straight and prepared to start breakfast. "Do you want me to accompany you?" It was the third time Dave had asked the same question. This time, in the middle of breakfast. Anna smiled at hearing that. She didn't answer because she thought she heard it wrong. She meant Dave had nothing to do with her job. So, what for? But then, on the third attempt, she just realized his caring tone. "No need. It's my job, not yours. Besides, it's Saturday. I don't want to ruin your weekend," she flatly refused. She appreciated him, but there was no reason for her to accept his offer. "My weekend is with you. But you're gonna work," Dave said, slightly dramatizing his words. But it was true, wasn't it? The reason he came to Los Angeles was Anna. If Anna went to work, who should he spend the weekend with? "You can call Chelsy." "She has a date. Should I bother her?" His answer reminded her of something. "Have you seen her boyfriend?" "Yes. He's invited every time Byrne has an event." Anna nodded in understanding. They had their own world. Once joined, it would open the path to go deeper. "They'll also invite you to the next event." "Huh?" The sentence seemed to pull her out of her mind. She didn't hear wrong, did she? "I'm sure grandma will check that out." Instead of repeating it, Dave said something else, adding to her confusion. What was the relationship between the event and grandma? Sure, there was. Grandma was Byrne's key. Stupidly, she questioned that. But luckily, she wasn't stupid enough to say that loud. Dave would definitely laugh at her for... the umpteenth time. "So," Dave said again. "If you don't want me to accompany you, how about I drop you off and wait for you? After that, we can go somewhere else," he continued with a new idea. "You won't give up, right?" She just realized that. Dave was stubborn, and that was something she didn't see at their first meeting. Or not yet. Well, that was the first meeting, anyway. "You read me well, even though we've only met a few times." "That's very clear." Then she took the glass and drank the juice. "So?" "That will be long. Can you wait?" Dealing with humans, especially someone like Kate, required excellent flexibility. She couldn't rely on time estimates. Or she would end up frustrated by them. "It's okay. I can wait for you at the cafe." "You can't call me." Dave nodded and took a sip of his juice. "I'll wait calmly. Don't worry." A chuckled out of her lips. Dave and his stubbornness somehow didn't bother her. So she had no solid reason to reject it. "You're really just going to sit and wait?" she asked one last time to be sure. Again, he nodded. There was no doubt in his entire reaction. "Sometimes, I'm just sitting at the cafe for hours." "Just sitting?" He showed a grin. "And working." Of course. There was no way someone determined to be Byrne was merely sitting and relaxing in a cafe. He must do something else. "Okay. You can wait in the cafe with your work while I finish mine." And like a child, he grinned with joy. It was then transmitted to her so that a smile spread across her lips. But actually, it was more about his expression than the pleasure of having someone wait for her. Was that true? Or maybe it was a mixture of both.
