I stared at myself in the mirror, trying to convince myself this was a good idea.
It wasn’t.
“You look beautiful,” Sage said from where she sat on my bed, already dressed in dark clothes that would let her blend into the shadows. “Stop second-guessing yourself.”
“I’m not second-guessing. I’m…” I smoothed down the emerald dress Sage had insisted I wear. It was elegant, fitted, the kind of thing that screamed “I made an effort.” “And I’m dreading this.”
“Why? He seems nice enough.”
“That’s the problem. He’s too nice. Too perfect. Too…” I trailed off, unable to understand why Damon made my skin crawl despite his charm.
