Mom… or Vanessa, calling her mom still felt weird, was already waiting, her healer’s instincts having sensed something was wrong before we even called. She took one look at Selina’s broken, bleeding body in Ashran’s arms and went pale. “Get her on the table. Now.” Ashran laid her down carefully, his hands shaking slightly as he pulled away. There were blood stains on his chest, and his arms were evidence of what he’d done to protect her.
