A city already entered the winter season, and the morning sunlight could not dispel the coldness in the entire city. This winter was exceptionally cold for the city. In front of the hotel, several black cars were parked in a row, with a Bentley car leading the way. A man with a tall figure stood next to the Bentley, wearing only a long woolen coat. His deep eyes were fixed on the hotel entrance, waiting for the hotel doors to open slowly and steady footsteps to follow. A group of people came out of the hotel, led by a man with exquisite features and outstanding temperament. Despite the cold weather, he only wore a smoke-gray suit, walking steadily with an intimidating air. His handsome face, which usually carried a gentle smile, now showed a calm demeanor, resembling a freehand watercolor painting. If not for the faintly discernible aura of authority in his brows, it would be hard to imagine that he was Alexander Grant, the man who made the business circles of A City tremble. "Mr. Grant," Michael Kane hurriedly approached, bowed slightly, and then opened the car door respectfully. Alexander Grant unbuttoned his suit jacket with his slender fingers before getting into the car. Michael Kane closed the door and got into the driver's seat. "Mr. Grant, I apologize for not knowing that the old man would return suddenly and disturb your rest," Michael Kane said while starting the engine, carefully observing Alexander Grant through the rearview mirror. Alexander Grant closed his eyes as soon as he got into the car, feeling tired from the previous night's ordeal. "Drive on." He opened his eyes slowly, rubbing his aching nose bridge. He had a pair of beautiful eyes, like autumn water, with slightly upturned corners that gave off a hint of femininity. But his clear, calm gaze added a touch of elegance, creating a unique charm – a masculine allure. "Mr. Grant, should we go directly to the old mansion?" Michael Kane noticed Alexander Grant's wrinkled white shirt and cautiously asked, "Do you want to go back and change clothes first?" Alexander Grant looked at his shirt and thought of the woman from the previous night. He raised an eyebrow and asked, "What happened with that woman last night?" He was always very self-disciplined and never wanted women when he went out for business. Michael Kane knew this and assumed that the incident was arranged by the other company. "I apologize, Mr. Grant. I didn't know there was a woman in your room last night. It might have been Lee's people..." Alexander Grant dismissed it with a wave of his hand, thinking back to the woman from the previous night. He couldn't deny that she was to his liking, which was why he gave in to his desire and had her. But to him, she was just a woman, not worth dwelling on. He closed his eyes again, his voice lazy and low. "Go straight to the old mansion." “The new CEO is coming next Monday.” “I know.” Emily White didn’t raise her eyebrows, just casually hummed, lost in thought while playing with her food. Sitting opposite her was her good friend Grace Quinn, who noticed Emily’s distraction and waved her chopsticks in front of her face to get her attention. “Hey, what’s wrong with you? You’ve been spaced out for days, and you’ve made mistakes at work. Did something happen?” Emily was usually very dedicated to her work as the secretary to the general manager of EC Group, but recently, she had made several errors, including mixing up important meeting files. “Nothing.” Emily shook her head, not wanting to elaborate. She couldn’t bring herself to talk about losing her boyfriend, being betrayed by her best friend, getting drunk, and having a one-night stand. It had been a week since that night, but Ethan Parker kept calling her, making her anxious. Why was he still contacting her when he already had a child with someone else? Grace knew Emily well enough to drop the subject when she saw her friend wasn’t interested in talking. Instead, she changed the topic: “By the way, do you know who the new CEO is?” “Who?” “Alexander Grant! He’s coming to oversee our EC Group directly by order of the old board chairman. And let me tell you, we’re in for a treat.” Alexander Grant? Emily’s expression shifted slightly at the mention of his name. She knew who he was—the charismatic businessman from A City who was also Samantha Lee’s older brother. She had met him twice during college. Since EC was a subsidiary of the Grant family, it made sense for Alexander to be sent over. However, the name still left a bitter taste in her mouth. “You don’t seem interested at all,” Grace observed. “Everyone in the company is excited about Alexander Grant. He’s not just any man, you know?” “You seem pretty excited yourself,” Emily teased. “I’ll make sure to check him out on your behalf too.” Grace rolled her eyes and was about to say something else when Emily’s phone started vibrating. She looked at the caller ID and her face changed. “It’s Ethan’s call. I’ll take it while you go to the restroom,” Grace said, not knowing about Emily’s breakup with Ethan. She headed off to the washroom. Once Grace was gone, Emily answered the call. Ethan’s voice came through urgently, but Emily remained calm. “Ethan Parker, I wish you and Samantha happiness from now on. I know everything that happened. Please don’t call me anymore.” Without waiting for Ethan to respond, Emily hung up. Just as she collected herself, Grace burst out of the restroom, looking ecstatic. “Emily, hurry back to the company! The new CEO is here!”
