LEXIE'S POV I have only been away for a day but I feel as if I have been away for ages. My people welcome me back to Dark Forest with a lot of happiness. I can see by the way they crave just to talk to me that they were really worried. I understand only too well what is going through their minds. When I qualified to become their leader I gave them hope, a sense of security and a guarantee that we will have peace. But then that very evening everything changed. I know that uncertainty hangs around us, and I will do everything to clear it. We hold a small meeting with the whole pack and I assure them that everything is fine. We have lost some of us in the battle, but we have managed to overcome the invader. I assure them that we will never be invaded again. As the meeting ends I can feel that some confidence has returned to them. I retreat to my office and I beckon to Mara to come with me. “Congratulations your majesty. I am so happy for you.” She says as she sits on the couch. “It is Lexie for you.” “Well, only for today Lexie. As I was saying, I am happy that you found your mate, and he's an Alpha.” “Thanks. Our Goddess works in mysterious ways. Who thought that our enemy would become my mate?” “Yes. Everything happens for a reason.” “Look Mara, I never told you this, but you are a very strong girl. On the battlefield you really gave me a hard time.” “So are you. The fact that you won is testimony to this.” “I invited you here to request you to always be on my side.” “I will always do what you ask me. You only need to ask.” “Aaaw. You are such a darling. Thanks.” “Any time my queen. Now, because I am sure that you have a busy schedule, I'll leave. Thanks for confiding in me ” As she leaves, I can't help but admire our pack. It's full of talent and most of us are leaders. As I go through the maps on the table, I hear a knock on the door and it's Rowan who comes in. He looks troubled, it's as if someone has forced him to come here. “Welcome Rowan. As a matter of fact I needed to talk to you.” “Thanks my queen. But what is it about?” “Don’t pretend Rowan. Just take a seat.” He sits directly in front of me but he can hardly look me in the eye. “Rowan, your reaction back at Stormridge made me realize that you had feelings for me.” I say. His eyes are fixed on the floor. “I don't understand. I don't think I said or did something to make you believe this.” “It is only after what I saw that everything fell into place. Rowan, you have been so good to me. You have been so protective and always around me. Then some days ago I overheard someone asking you when you intend to make your move.” He looks at me now. “It is true. But all that has now been overtaken by events. The Black Alpha came . He is now your mate and I am happy for you.” “Listen Rowan. A very bright future awaits you. The Moon Goddess will get you a mate. You have pack work to do. Please just focus and when the time is right, everything will fall into place.” “Thanks. I am certainly lucky to be near you.” “No. I am the lucky one. You rescued me from the beast. You brought me here and I can remember us training together until now that we are the top leaders of the pack. Your mate will certainly be a very lucky girl.” For the first time he smiles and I feel thee tension going away. Just then there's a knock on the door. “Just come in.” I say. Rowan rises. “I will go and check on the security. Thanks my queen.” “Please do.” As he walks out elder Garrick comes in. It looks as if it's going to be a long evening. “Please take a seat elder Garrick. This is your former office. Please feel at home.” “I just came to check whether you are fine, then I'll be going home.” “I would have come to your house because there is something that's been happening and I want to hear your advice about it. Now that you are here....” “And what could that be?” I sit back and narrate everything about my dreams, every detail and mostly the conversations with the moon Goddess. He listens silently, and doesn't show any signs of surprise. “Don't worry about this Lexie. The moon Goddess doesn't appear to just anybody. It seems that you are important to her.” “And what is this mission?” “She is never ambiguous. At the right time she will let you know. “Okay. What about her prophet. She mentioned that she has a prophet and she asked me to find him. Where do I start?” “No need. He will reveal himself to you. Everything you have said needs your patience. At the right time, the puzzle will be solved. “Well, then I guess I'll just wait.” “You have no choice but to wait.” After he leaves I retire to my bedroom. It is almost midnight and I feel so tired. I take a quick shower and jump to bed, then fall asleep immediately. I get the mother of all dreams. I am now in a riverbank. The water is flowing slowly over the rocks and the sky is very clear. Moonlight bathes the entire land with a warm light. I walk near the river and look. The water is so clear I can fish swimming inside. I can also see see the riverbed. Then I hear her familiar voice and turn. She is right behind me. “I come again Lexie.” “Thanks mother.” I say, bowing my head. “There is something I want to reveal to you.” She walks closer. I can feel her warmth radiating through to me. I bow my head so that I don't look at her face. She touches my cheek, the one with the scar and I can feel some heat, some energy, entering my body. At some point I feel it in my hands. “I have given you healing powers. You will now be able to heal the sick and the wounded.” “Why me mother?” “You know pain. You have been through pain. Therefore you understand it. Go ahead, try this one.” I see a person being brought to me. He has an open wound in his abdomen and blood pours from it. After placing my hands on him the wound seals itself. “There. You just did it.” She says. The moment the wound closes, the river suddenly becomes still. It is not flowing anymore. The frogs who were making all sorts of noise go quiet. I look down. The water is no longer clear beneath my feet. It has turned dark. Then I hear screams. I look up and the peaceful riverbank is gone and I am standing in the middle of a battlefield. I can't say where it is but there are many people fighting with weapons. Others are clawing at each other. I see Paul, Nate, Rowan, Alfred, Mara and surprisingly, Selene and Abigail. My heart skips a beat. Selene? Abigail? Why are they here? The others I can understand, but why these two? I turn toward the Moon Goddess, but she is already looking at me. “A war is coming. I will tell you what to do.” She vanishes, and I wake up abruptly. I am sweating. THIRD PERSON'S POV Andrew walks into Alpha Nate's office. It is already past midnight and Nate is still looking at the maps on his table. He has circled all the territory occupied by the Blue Moon pack of Alpha Nathan. “What do you have Andrew?” “I found out about Lexie. Yes, she is alive and she is the queen of rogues. She is now at the Dark Forest pack, having been released by Alpha paul.” “Released?” “Yes. It is a long story. Suffice it to say that Stormridge pack and Dark Forest pack are on the verge of signing a peace deal.” “Anything else?” “Yes. Lexie and Paul are mates. As such Paul is throwing a party so as to introduce her to his people.” “A party? I am going.” “But you don't have an invitation?” “I don't need one. I will crash.” “And what do you intend to do once you go there uninvited?” “Don't ask me questions Andrew. It is not your business.” “It became my business the moment you sent me.” “I am your Alpha. You are my subject.” “I don't think so. The moment you hired me to train rogues I ceased to be your subject. I became a mercenary, your partner in crime, your co-conspirator.” “Oh really?” He moves nearer, and the two men look at each other menacingly. Finally, Nate laughs. “Go back to your station. I don't think you need to come with me to Stormridge. “Unless you give me a reason to.” Andrew says as he walks out. Nate shakes his head. He can't believe that Andrew can now challenge his authority. “I will deal with you later Andrew. Now I need to focus.” Looking at the map again, he circles the Stormridge pack. “Paul,” he whispers, his eyes narrowing. “You took what belongs to me.” A cold smile crosses his face. “Now I am coming for you.”
