LEXIE'S POV
I hear Nate's voice so clearly, yet I can't see him.
“I reject you Lexie. I can't accept you to be my mate. You are a lowly Omega, I am the Alpha of this pack. The moon goddess must be playing games......”
“Alpha Nate, you have caused me a lot of pain. I swear that this is not over, it's nowhere near over. I'll be back Nate, and I will exact revenge for what you have done to me.”
“I will be here waiting. Look for another lowly person, pray that he becomes your mate, then start thinking about revenge. Hahahaha........”
The laughter is so loud, almost hysterical, and it echoes through the trees. I open my eyes, and I am deep inside a forest, so thick that it resembles the one I had escaped into years ago. The memory of the attack by the beast comes back, and I feel a lot of fear.
I start running.
But then I get that feeling again, that I am being watched. I hide behind a massive tree, and at that moment I wish I could have elder Garrick at my side. I wish he could teach me the ways of the forest, so that I could guard myself. I regret that I had promised to get rid of the ancient defense mechanisms because I need them now.
A twig breaks behind me and I quickly turn to look.
Nothing.
I think about climbing the tree, but it's too slippery, every attempt is futile and I stop. Another twig breaks, a strange beastly voice growls in the background. A very familiar growl. Why the same beast? I think of screaming, but when I try no voice comes out.
Then everything goes silent, even the insects and crickets stop their noise. The darkness subsides and I can see shadows everywhere I look. It is like I am now at the mercy of the forest creatures. I slowly sit down on the forest floor, giving up. Leaves break, crushed, as I sit on them.
“Do not be afraid Lexie, it's me.” A soothing female voice, accompanied by a whiff of fresh air. Suddenly moonlight fills the forest.
I look up the trees from where the voice has come, and the first thing I see is the moon, impossibly too near. The eerie silence is gone, the shadows too. I can see everything around me, and the fear in me disappears, replaced by a soothing calm.
Then she appears.
A tall lady, in the middle of the trees. Beautiful, in a flowing silk dress and a shiny tiara on her head. I have heard her being described before so I know exactly who she is, the moon goddess.
“I come in peace. Don't be afraid.” I bow my head. I wonder why she is here. I am not a very good person. My pack is not a regular one. I am the queen of rogues, not a Luna. She could appear to so many perfect ones, so why me?
Its like she knows what I am thinking.
“I am happy to see you. But why are you carrying the burden of revenge?” She gets closer.
“I just want him to pay.”
“Revenge can cloud your judgement Lexie, it can slow down your progress. The past is gone. But if you want it so much, I won't deter you.”
“What do you suggest?”
“Your enemies, you will meet them on your way. It will be upon you to decide on what to do to them.”
I pause to digest on her statement.
“Lexie, the time is now. I have come because I want to send you on a mission. But before I do, there is something I want to give to you.” She is right in front of me.
“Which mission?”
“You will find out soon. Let me do what I must do.”
I am motionless as she reaches out her hand and touches my scar. I feel some heat inside me, and it spreads all over my body. She steps away immediately.
“What have you done?” I ask.
“I have removed the seal.” Then she disappears. I try looking around but she is gone, but I can hear voices.
immediately I wake up. It was just a dream. I am sleeping on a bed, in a very dark room. I remember what happened.
The raid on our pack on the very day I became the queen. The war in the rain. Rowan's voice, as I went blank, urging our fighters to protect me.
So I was taken prisoner. What happened later? Was my pack destroyed, and if there are other prisoners, where are they being held? The questions keep on coming, one after the other.
I sit up on the bed and stand up. I am fine, no injury. I can't tell how long I have been here, but I guess it's only about a few hours. I must find out what happened to my pack. Someone must tell me. I grope the walls, looking for a door. When I find it I'll bang it until someone comes.
Just then I hear movement, footsteps from outside. Not one. person, maybe two or three. The sound of keys jingling on the steel door follows next and it clangs open. Next I hear them switching on the light and the room is flooded with light. My eyes can't adjust, and I close them.
“Finally, we meet.” I open my eyes and see him. He doesn't look like what he looks in the pictures we have in our files. In person he is tall, with dark eyes, flowing black hair and a long face. He has a broad chest that threatens to tear his T-shirt down the middle. His arms are strong, muscles no doubt toned in the battle field, not in a gym. He has a tattoo on the left arm. Clearly, he is a work of art, and I can't resist looking again. Then I remember that I am a prisoner, in his dungeon. I shouldn't be seeing this. The person authorized an attack on my pack, why are my eyes behaving like this? He is an enemy, I shouldn't forget that.
“The black Alpha. Thanks for your hospitality. But I need to check out now.”
He looks at me again as if in deep thought. Our eyes meet and I can't hold his gaze. I look down.
“Lexie, we need to talk.” He looks at the two people he came with, one with a severed lip, waves for them to leave. They leave but its as if they do so unwillingly. Inside my head, I am trying to control my wolf.
He closes the door, then comes closer, too close for comfort. In his hand is a piece of paper which has stains. Blood?
I feel so powerless and I sit on the bed.
“Are you my mate, seriously?” He finally asks.
