Chapter 8

He turns around and heads for the stairwell again. Who does he think he is? "Where are we going next?" He jeers. I sigh and walk past him, refusing to answer anymore of his questions. If he wants this tour to end early, then I'll make it as fast as possible.  I walk up the stairs to the 3rd floor, not bothering to look back to see if he's even keeping up. As I walk through the entrance, i see a whole bunch of students sitting around the hallways, either on their phones or reading books. Probably for study hall.  "Why are you walking so fast all of sudden? Where are we going?" I roll my eyes and slowly turn around to meet his dark annoyingly beautiful eyes. I want to scream at him, but i decide to keep my anger under control. I put a finger to my lips, signaling for him to shut up because it's study time for the students.  I turn back around and walk forward at the same speed. I hear him mutter something behind me, but I don't ask to find out what it was. I know where I'm taking him, that should be enough.  I open the doors to the classroom, divulging a array of vacant computer desks. Dennis squeezes through into the room and follow behind him.  "This is one of the computer rooms, which will probably be one of your major classes." "Okay... all these computers look kind of old." "What did you expect?" I say before I can bite my tongue. I have a very sensitive history with computers, I don't like when some snooty kids talk smack about them because they're old models.  Dennis looks over to me questioningly as I fold my arms over my stomach.  "This school doesn't pull in a lot of money so we make due with whatever we have." I explain.  "Which is not a lot I see."  "Yes it isn't. Sorry, not all of us can afford to go to a high end school. Your expectations are too high I see." I really should stop talking but I can feel my face heat up with anger. And, even if I don't, what's the difference with just one more bully? I can handle it.  His eyes narrow as he cuts me with a glare like daggers.  "What is your problem all of a sudden?"  "What is YOUR problem?"  "Oh, really mature. You're just going to copy everything I say?" He spits, his handsome face now flushing with rage. Good, at least both of us are mad now so I can get in some good yelling. I needed to let go for a few days now anyway.  "I'm not copying everything you're saying. You're just so much of a egotistical meathead that you think everything revolves around you." "First of all, you hardly even know me. You're the one that's acting like a asshole."  I huff with irritation as I walk heatedly towards the door. "Where are you going?"  I slowly turn back to him. "You know, I don't need to know you to know your type. You're just like everyone else, a bully and a asshole. Maybe you can ask your new girlfriend Tyffiny to show you where the library is." And with that, I storm out of the room, steam pouring out of my ears.  I want to leave the school, but i know it'll be marked on my attendance... but then again, my father and Mom hardly pays attention to that anyway. Usually, they just pay attention to the A's on my reportcard.  I go back to Mr. Goldenburg's classroom and grab my backpack, but not in time before he strolls out of his class's closet.  "Oh, Emily. Sorry, you gave me a little scare there. Coffee?" He points to the pot brewing besides his desk and I shake my head. I just want to leave as fast as possible before Dennis tells his new girlfriend what had happen. I don't want to be in this zoo anymore. It's like that show with the bunch of prison inmates and they all are being picked on by the guards for no reason other then sticking up for themselves.  "Alright, just ask me at any time."  "Thanks Mr. Goldenburg. I'll be leaving now."  "Wait, wait. I have a question that I really want answered. So, why does every other bird fly, but not the penguins." I give Mr. Goldenburg a look of confusion but he seems preoccupied on his computer, probably looking at a picture of a penguin.  "They're like miniature business man... or butlers. I guess they feel too good for flying." He sighs. I smile at the weird commentary. I swear, only Mr. Goldenburg would say stuff like this.  "Well... there also was the dodo. It can't fly."  "Well that bird is extinct so it doesn't really count.  Ugh, next you'll be one of those people who believe pterodactyls are some kind of bird." There's silence between us for a moment. "You... you do know it's not a bird right? Like birds did not originate from it?" "I mean I never went into the specifics, but I just assumed-" "Well you assumed wrong. They're flying lizards alright? You know what, just... leave my class please." I smile slightly at give a salute before I leave the classroom, walking down the halls towards the doors. The sooner I get out of here, the better. I usually hate skipping school because my teachers say that colleges look at attendance too not just grades.  But today I just need to leave... I need to refill my batteries because I feel emotionally exhausted. And with the s**t I've been through, its rare for me to feel this way. I hear some students snicker behind me, probably commenting about my hair or something.  I hurriedly walk around the hall where the twin back doors of the school where. I slowly open the door and walk out, making sure no students had seen before closing the door behind me.  Ah, freedom! I walk the short way to my house, thinking about why penguins can't fly. I might need to look that up later... and if pterodactyls really are just flying lizards, reach is really hard to believe. I also think about Dennis, and seeing his face now makes me want to punch him. God, why did he have to live next to me?  My house finally comes into view. I start walking up the street towards it until I see a car in our driveway... wait not just not any car. My dad's car. My heart freezes in place and the only thing I can hear is the sound of cars driving by. He's here. Before I can move, I hear our front door open...
