Chapter 9

953 Words
My heart bangs in my ears as I feel my hands start to tremble. No, no he can't be home so early. Why am I having such bad luck? Without thinking I run as fast as I can behind a bush directly in front of me, hoping that it wasn't too late.  I don't hear any screams for my name, so that may be a good sign. I count to 30 before I look out behind the bush and what i see is him going into his car. I don't know why he's home so early again nor do i want to go investigate to find out. My ass is on the line here.  The car backs out from in front of the house and drives down the street i'm on, whizzing past the bush I'm behind. I blow out a gigantic breathe as I try to stop my hands from shaking. That scared me so much.  "If there's a god out there, thank you!" I say semi-loud into the cloud dotted sky. I walk into the lobby where our apartment is. My legs feel like they're being pricked by pins as i walk to the front door, pushing in my keys and walking on in. I set my bag by the entrance. After my heart has finally slowed down to normal beats, I start to wonder why my father was home in the first place. Why he's been coming home earlier than usual.  I sure as anything can't ask him, unless I want to be beat to a squishy pulp. I might have to ask Mom, but I doubt she knew anything either.  I crash into the computer desk chair, immediately opening my browser and typing in FreeWrite, the only place that people actually like my works and personality. When I open up the site, I see a whole bunch of people who's decided to contact me through inbox. I click on one of them: JayLovers95: I can't believe Dillan left her to those idiots. Great work so far honey, I can't wait for the next chapter! I smile a little, feeling at ease for once today. I open another one. Christiangal: Wooooow, ths is why I only ship Patty and Jarison. Even tho, I'm not gonna deny that Dillan is super hot ;) And a few others.  AmyObrien: Noooooo ;( I loved Dillan and Patty together! The time they spent alone was always so steamy... Trisha673: This is why I like Jarison more. I'm team sweet guy GGd;  : Your book is always so amazing. God I love these characters, they're like my babies :0 WhatChuWant: I need this chapter now! Dillan needs to come back!! I read a few more, the high of everyone's praise making me feel on top of the world. But its short lived as I hear a knock on the door. My heart starts to pound in my chest again. What if its my father? ... but that wouldn't make sense, he would've just used his keys to open the door.  I hesitantly walk to our front door and peak my eyes through the peeper hole. Staring back at me is the woman I saw with Dennis before. Her black gorgeous raven hair is pulled up into a pony tail and she's now wearing a simple cotton shirt with capri sun jeans. She knocks again, and I contemplate whether to open the door or not.  I can see that she's holding something in her hand, a box of some sort. Maybe I should open the door. Dennis and me don't particularly like each other, but I don't want his mother disliking us too. I unlock the front door reluctantly, not completely sure whether this is a good plan or bad one yet.  Her face brightens as her bright eyes divert to my face.  "Oh, hello! Um sorry... is your parents here?"  "No, they're at work." I say bluntly. She nods a little bit, focusing more on the inside of our apartment then me.  "Sorry, this was supposed to be for your mother. We kind of bumped into each other outside in the morning and I decided to bake you guys a cake. Do you mind taking it?" Wow. Dennis's Mom is super polite. How can Dennis be such a devil and she such a angel? I can't remember the last time someone besides Ms. Foecher had baked something for us, if there was any time.  I carefully take the cake.  "Thanks, that's really nice of you." I reply. She smiles and holds her hands in front of her. "What's your name?" "Emily."  "Okay Emily. Just give your mother my greetings... by the way aren't you supposed to be in school?" My previous smile crumbles into a apprehensive frown. Damn it.  "Uh... actually I'm sick." "Oh really? I'm so sorry. And you're here by yourself?" I nod. She looks past me into our apartment again until her smile comes back on her face.  "Well, if you're alone and sick, would you like to come over? I know we're strangers but I couldn't bare the thought of you here by yourself. " "Oh, no. No. No, I  couldn't. I probably should just stay home. I'll just rest or something."  "No, no, no, I insist. Even, I have this great soup recipe for when you're sick. It was my mom's." "I really think it wouldn't be a goo-" "Nonsense, come a long. You can bring the cake too if you want to have desert." What... just happened? I reluctantly bring the cake with me as we walk outside of the lobby to her front house door. I can't believe this happened to me. This is great, this is just great. Now i'm having lunch with Dennis's Mom, a guy that I cursed out before leaving him by himself in a school he didn't know.  Why do I feel like this won't end well?
