Dominic noticed the helpless look on Sienna's face, and his brow tightened just enough to betray the cold edge forming behind his eyes.
He dipped a hand into his pocket and fished out a coin, then flicked it casually onto the polished floor. The metallic clink rang out sharper than it had any right to in the crowded hall.
"Excuse me," he called out, his voice cutting through the ambient chatter with theatrical surprise, "did someone drop a diamond ring? Ten carats, by the look of it."
The reaction was instantaneous, voices overlapping as heads swiveled toward the floor.
"Where did it go? I think I see something over there!"
"That's mine, I'm sure I dropped it earlier when I was adjusting my bracelet!"
