His True Mate In Green

1014 Words
I watched Sebastian as he went around the grounds, placing gentle kisses on the hands of the women, and shaking the men. In the corner of my eye, I could feel Celeste looking at me as he got closer to me. We were at the far end of the celebrations, and to make his way ever to us, he had to kiss the hands of the women before me, which was fine. Yet, when he got to her, the woman who had arrived late and taken her seat in front of me, he stopped, and without even a gaze of acknowledgements at me, he smiled, and walked ahead to the center of the grounds. “I have decided upon who will be my mate. She will come forward now. The lady at the far end, in the green dress.” The entire grounds went silent, and all of us decided to look around, and almost immediately, I sprung up like a weed. A collective gasp went across the coronation ceremony, and I looked around, perplexed. “What?” I asked, looking to Celeste for some help. With shaky fingers, she pointed ahead of me at the lady who had come in late and taken her seat in front of me. Now I realized afresh that we were both wearing green, and hers had been the last hand he had taken to his lips and kissed. I looked ahead as she walked there, and I stepped aside to watch, waiting, in hopes that the wrong person had made their way to the front. “No. No. No. gods, no.” Beside me, other people who stood in the side of the aisle looked in confusion, a few of them muttering and pointing. None of that mattered to me. I wanted so terribly to see them be put to shame, for Sebastian to apologize to the lady and point to me, the one he loved. Millie, Emilia, the woman he had urged very persistently to be patient, the person to whom he had promised a life and a family. Yet, I watched on helplessly as she finally arrived to him and he pulled her into a hug and dipped her body to kiss her. I watched in shock as the entire celebration erupted in applause. My mouth opened up and screams began to escape it, and while a few people were close enough to observe the fact that it was anguish, most of them did not realize that it was out of panic, and joined in, screams of joy taking over the grounds. Both of them looked familiar at each other, and I walked in front of them to see if or not he would act like he recognized me. I wanted to call out his name and see what he would say, if anything, but I knew that he wouldn't. Besides, I could no longer call out his name the way I wanted to. He was now Alpha Sebastian. Now the highest rank on the ladder. I could not just refer to him the way I used to whenever we met under the trees in the dark. Celeste came after me and threw the couple the nastiest look as she walked past them, coming to me to pull me into a hug. “I’m so sorry, Millie. Do you wanna go home now? We can just go together, and-” “No!” I exclaimed, my voice shaky. “I don't want you to leave the party. And I don't think I want to leave either. Maybe I can speak to him later, during all the merriment. I could ask him what happened. Maybe there's an explanation that he can offer me to make things go smoother. I refuse to believe that he would betray me this way, Celeste.” “What if you don't like the answer that he ends up giving to you? What if there's no explanation and it ends up hurting more? Millie, you might have to pick your battles,” warned Celeste, a frown on her face. I wiped away the stray tear that had escaped from my eye, smiling bravely at her. “I know. I know that it might hurt, but I just have to know. I can't go on without knowing. It's going to haunt me for the rest of my life. I want to know how long they have known each other for. How much of the entire time we spent together has been a lie.” “Alright then,” Celeste said with a grimace. “In that case, I will be there with you. I just want to make sure that you are okay. And incase you end up needing to beat him up, I can be there, you know? For moral support.” “I don't think I will be beating anybody up, Celeste,” I laughed, another tear escaping from my eye. “And neither are you, especially if we want to keep living here.” “Alright, alright, fine. But if he looks at me, I'm gonna stick him with one of these,” she muttered, fixing me with the nastiest look known to man. With a smile, I decided to sober up and head to the grounds where the pack was having refreshments. If things went south, I would at least manage to get a free meal out of it before my entire life changed. All around me, many pack members smiled and chattered to each other about what was going on in the pack, and how things were going. Some of them mentioned how beautiful that Sebastian’s mate was, talking about how her family was one of the richest ones on this side of town. I knew that what I was about to do could make or break all of the things I had done to build a life in the pack, yet I couldn’t help it. I needed to know why he had done what he had done to me, and if he had a choice in it.
