I watched Sebastian hang out with the lady in the green dress and smoke as well-wishers came forward to them, and I felt my heart squeeze in upon itself. He had made sure that I had no way of contacting him and now I was realizing just how foolish I was and how right Celeste had been.
The crowd had dissipated a bit when I went over, and I was a little bit heavy from all of the drinks I had tossed back into my throat, so my words were not as coherent. A voice in the back of my mind warned me not to go ahead with talking to him, but I refused to listen, well aware that without the liquid courage propelling me, I would be unable to have this conversation with Sebastian.
As I walked towards him, he fixed on a plastic smile, his teeth shining through. “Emilia! It is so nice to see you,” he smiled. “Are you here to congratulate my bride and I?”
With that statement, the final thread in my head snapped, and I walked closer to him, teeth bared and spoiling for a fight. “What do you mean your bride and you? Did you not tell me that you wanted to spend the rest of your life with me? Was it not you who told me that I needed to let go and trust you and believe you? You even made me wear a dress in the same color as her so you could complete the humiliation. What did I ever do to you?”
With a small laugh, he waved over at some of the security guards, and as one of them placed a gentle hand on mine, I began to scream, the thread in my head that had been keeping me under control snapping.
“No! Leave me alone! You don't even know the half of it. This man here is a fraud, a liar, and he has betrayed me. He and I were together before this coronation and he asked me to be here. He told me to wear the color green and even asked me to dress pretty so his family would like me. And here he is in the arms of some other woman? This man has defiled me on multiple occasions and I have let him because of the trust I had in him and the fact that I hoped he would be honest. And now you want to remove me? Me? How about you remove the despicable man who lied to me and used my body and used me?”
A collective hush went over the crowd as they looked between me and Sebastian, wondering who exactly to take seriously. Sebastian had managed to perfect his serious face, and he made use of it now yelling at me and walking forward to poke me in the chest.
“I should have you arrested for saying a thing as incredulous as that about me but I am in a good mood which is why I will let you go. I do not know you. I have never known you, and I have never ever made contact with you or touched your skin. I do not know who gave you the instructions to come dressed in a green dress but I know it wasn't me and I will not have you stand there and accuse me of such. Especially not in front of my bride-to-be.”
I looked around to see if Celeste would be there, to perhaps help me confirm what I was saying and put it to the public that he was lying, about everything, but it seemed to me like she had left, and I felt my heart sink. I looked to Sebastian and pleaded with him making use of my eyes, hoping he would realize how cruel his actions were.
“Sebastian please-”
“you do not speak to your Alpha that way. That is Alpha Sebastian To you. Also I would like to ask you just one question. Do you really think that a man of my caliber could ever be with a woman like you? Not only are you poor, miss, but you stink and for whatever reason you go around the world thinking that it owes you something. You do realize that you are an orphan and to get married we would need the blessings of your parents right? Also I would like to know what you think your family has to offer me and why you even felt in any way shape or dimension that I would go for it. In fact, I am insulted that you will even remotely think that you are my type. I do not know you and you are nothing but a lonely nobody who thought that she could climb up the ladder by making use of a connection with me. Even in non-existent imaginary lives.”
I saw the tears of betrayal roll down my cheek as I looked around me and realized that the conversation that had been merely a heated argument between Sebastian and I had become a much bigger thing, and behind me a crowd was swelling. Fingers have started to point at me and the people who have been in the pews beside me at the coronation ceremony pointed out me, and spoke out of earshot.
At first I was going to ignore it but it all got too much and overwhelming and I began to cry, hot salty tears that seemed to burn my cheek as they went down. I looked around in hopes of finding Celeste, but she was nowhere to be found and seeing as she was the only person who could help me prove my innocence and emphasize on the fact that it's Sebastian and I have only been a thing? All of it was pointless.
With my cheeks flushed with color and tears, I hiked up my dress so my shorts were obvious and ran away from the park and the life that I knew.
