THE DAUGHTER

"Sir, please initiate. The programme is ready to launch in ten, nine, eight, seven..." He grunts at his watch and immediately bangs it off. "I-I am sorry about it." He tells me, blinking his beautiful eyes several times. "Itisokay." I say. Yes, I spoke it that fast because I just want him to come to the point as quick as he can. Gosh, why isn't he speaking up? I am dying of curiousity. "Shall I just...I only want to tell this to you..." He stammers again. Oh God! He is really frightening me now, he's never reacted this way, so perplexed. He needs to finish because I am so on pins and needles. What if he isn't gonna wish me and about to ask me about his favorite metallic pen or white leather shoes or using my washroom? No please, wish me!!! "Yes?" I raise my eyebrows again. Come on Adam, speak up, speak it out? Say it, say it dammit, I bang my fists mentally. "I wanted to w..." He begins until we both are interrupted. "Mom!" A soft, cute voice from the door brings us out of this illusion and our anxiety and uneasiness suddenly stops. His eyes follow mine to the door where my 6 year old Hannah stands, rubbing her eyes smilingly. "Hey honey!" I smile back at her. "Come here quick!" "Hey Dad, you're not allowed in Mom's room!" She whispers as she walks past him and climbs onto my bed. I hide my giggle under my teeth at her words. "Hey who said that to you cupcake?" He says, looking at me with a weird face, lifting his eyebrows. "I didn't!" I mouth the words to him and shrug. "Because she never comes to your room and you never go to her room?" She sits herself back on my lap as I cuddle her chubby cheeks. I notice that Hannah's remark perturbes Adam as he thinks something. "Hey, don't tell anybody else this thing, okay?" I tell Hannah, leaning towards her. "Yes. That's not right Hannah..." Adam begins. "Dad remains busy all the time and Mom's got work, so we have different rooms because we have different schedules." He explains and sits on the edge of my bed as I listen to him carefully. He is so handsome. "So you both sleep together at night?" She asks innocently and we both at look at each other dumbstruck. I feel my cheeks getting warm, I can bet they're reddening. Sleep together at night? We never sit together in the daytime, let alone sleeping. We have two different bedrooms and we barely go to each others'. "Amm..yess, honey." Adam lies jitterly after a few seconds, and I flush stupidly. "We sleep together." He adds, without hesitating. Am I imagining myself sleeping next to him? Probably, yes. That feeling would be so exciting for my hormones. Not talking of s*x, I wish I could sleep next to him, atleast once and stare him snoring. Setting his room on fire may work but then, there are dozen other rooms in this mansion that have not been discovered yet. So he'd rather choose them and my room wouldn't be the last thing on earth that he'd go for. Why he maintains so much distance from me and makes me feel like I'm an untouchable? "Yes." Hannah says. "My friend is an i***t, she said that you both don't sleep together, so you don't love each other." She adds. I feel my heart ceasing at her words, and I couldn't dare to meet Adam's eyes. "Hannah, sleeping together is in no way relevant to love, cupcake." He pats her cheek. "Keep your mind out of these silly things, okay?" "Yes Daddy." She replies nodding. "Good girl!" I say, holding her nose. "I love you both!" Hannah says hugging me and I hug her back. "Where's my bear huggie?" Adam says pouting his slender lips. Awww so cutely. "There it is!" She points to the top corner of the room and runs away the moment he looks in that direction, before he follows her out of the room. I walk outside the balcony and the cold wind welcomes my face. I look around the greenery and stilled river water. Rain has stopped and sun is shining again, so scorchingly as if it never disappeared before the rain. The scenery immediately soothes my mind, it always does.
