All my life, I’ve been a runt, a virgin with no wings to fly. I’ve always wondered what it’s like, giving myself to someone.” - Enoma Pearl … The sooner he brought me to his room; I was met with his violet and burnt gold color watching as he disentangled his palms from my waist. I watched as his dark garments hovered across the room, as he took multiple steps back to shut his door, his garments exhibiting the violet traces as he walked back to me. I couldn’t deny my rage right now. I wasn’t thinking straight, I hadn’t slept, and my head was a blur. I tried to take everything in. Soaring my eyes on the dark limestone walls, I traced them back down, staring at the marble floors, the rug, and the giant poster bed as I said, “Who was that, what was that about me handling your fire and why did you bring me here?” “No one that matters and you shouldn’t take what he says to heart, sweetheart-“ “Let’s cut the chase.” I said, “I won, can I reach who I want to, now?” “About that-“ “You gave me your word,” I blurted. “I did, but my time here is limited.” he said, “The King always sees each Game to the end,” “Are you stalling?” I narrowed my eyes asking him and he folded his hands. He chuckled, making my hands fist. “I don’t stall sweetheart, not when it has my best interest at heart,” he said. Then what Games was he playing? Or was he real and was I just imagining things? “What really happened at the cave?” I asked. “I had someone look into your surname, recalling its familiarity, and found out you are from a lineage that was thought to be extinct,” Daxon said. “What lineage?” I said, in my thoughts that my bloodline was actually in history. “The Pearl lineage,” “That book…” I replied, as he said those words. “What book?” he asked. “There was a book, back at Crestwood, Elena read it to me as a child. I… I thought it was all a story,” I blurted. “Who’s Elena?” he asked. “My sister, my elder sister, she-“ I stopped at my words. What was I doing? I shouldn’t be telling him about my life, I just met him. “You can trust me, Enoma. I’m on your side,” he said with a smile, sitting with me. He took my hands in his staring at me with his childlike expression, “I’m not the enemy,” “Elena read a similar book to me, as a child. She said she found it, in my mom’s basement wanted me to feel good even without my mom by my side,” I said. “Where was your mom?” he asked. “No- I’m not doing this,” I replied, standing up and walking the other way. “Doing what?” he said, going along with me. “Sharing my sad story, or any of that bonding stuff. Besides you have an event to attend,” I said. “You should go,” “I’m not leaving,” he said, “Not when this concerns what our relationship could be, in the future,” He made it sound like it was real. “My mom was never present,” I said plainly, “So, Elena did this to keep me company,” “After looking into the Pearl lineage, I found that you are from a distinct bloodline called The Water Dwellers, a set of females who live in the aqua realm,” King Daxon said. I walked back to him, “I have another home?” “Yes, this explains why you can manipulate waves, and swim well without trying,” Daxon said. It was no wonder he caught the mind link. He was sure I wouldn’t drown; I got it now. “So... how do I find them, The Water Dwellers?” I asked, nervously, still trying to take it all in. “No one knows, they separated themselves from the surface a long time ago. It is no wonder, that you’re a descendant,” Daxon said, holding my hands, once more. I don’t know if this was becoming his favourite thing. I withdrew my hands, moving to sit on his bed once more. “I should have something at least, on them,” I said. “The Water Dwellers visited KOTA, Enoma,” he said, and hope lit my eyes. “But that was centuries ago, I was a child and don’t recall anything more than that,” “Oh,” I said, taking in what he just said. I also thought of the reason I just found this out now? No matter how much I tried to hide it, I had gone through a lot. Crestwood made me hate my existence. They bullied and discriminated against me a lot. Sometimes, I wished myself gone. I thought I was a mistake. Since I had no wolf, I didn’t fit in. Finding out I’m not as void as I thought myself to be, I couldn’t deny that hope that crept through me. And, hope could be dangerous. … King Daxon went back to the Game arena after our conversation. He insisted I stay in his bedroom, and not go back to the Sand’s arena. In his words, I was at risk. Especially after winning the first level and finding out I was a Water Dweller. He thought the event would serve as an eye opener and people would come snooping. I lay in his bed, promising myself not to sleep and wait for him so I finally reached my sister when he returned. I didn’t know when I fell asleep. By the time I woke up, I didn’t know how much time had passed. I stood up walking to his bathroom to pee. The sooner I was done, the quicker I had a quick bath feeling itchy from the mud earlier. I tied his towel returning to the room to dry myself and wear my clothes before he came only to see him sitting on the purple sofa, adjacent to the bed. A book was in his hands when I entered but he closed it, with his demeanour changing. The Lycan King’s hazel gaze, stared at me in wonder. “What… are you doing?” he let out, and I became embarrassed on the spot. It made me wonder why I took my bath in his bathroom. I could have just gone to the Sands arena. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have!” I exclaimed those words, heading to my clothes on the bed, my legs wet as I sauntered back. I shut the bathroom door, twisting the lock before drying myself and putting my clothes on. I laid his towel to dry, adjusting my trousers and blouse. I stepped out, feeling on guard and a bit shy but I looked for something else to say so it didn’t feel weird one bit. “How were the Games?” I let out. “The girls all came back and the points have been distributed, you scored the highest points with your teammate, a 50,” he announced. “Good, to know,” I muttered with thoughts of what my next experience would be. Would I even last another day? I had to prepare for the next Games. And watch my back. Madeline and Samantha tried to eliminate me. They’d do it again. I was sure of it. “Yeah,” King Daxon replied. “Are we allowed to keep our weapons?” I asked Daxon, my stomach in a knot. “No, all weapons are returned to the arena, why?” King Daxon asked. “My reasons are personal,” I replied, “Can I reach the person now?” “Of course, be my guest,” King Daxon said, taking some paper from his drawer with a fountain pen, and handing it to me. “You can use that surface,” “Thanks,” I said sitting down. I took the pen, bracing myself and sighing before I commenced. It took long but I was reaching her finally. Something about that made me feel good. Maybe there was hope after all.
