New quest

All my life, I’ve been a runt, a virgin with no wings to fly. I’ve always wondered what it’s like, giving myself to someone.” - Enoma Pearl … I stared at the puzzles with numerous thoughts on how to fit them. From where I stood, I watched Lady Peach take some paper from a man. He had a powerful aura and was clothed in a yellow blazer that extended to the ground. His hair was gold, its length passing beneath his chin. I noticed he was sitting two seats away from the King and in his hands was a fox mask. He muttered something, staring at me with the gleam of his yellow eyes. And for an instant, it seemed like this had happened before. “Stay away from her,” I heard the King murmur. It seemed like his magic was malfunctioning again. His voice was becoming more prevalent in my head. “And if I don’t?” some silent foxy voice said. “I won’t be responsible for what happens after,” King Daxon said. I stared with wonder in their direction. He stared back at me, realizing I just heard their conversation, snapping his fingers which cut me off. Lady Peach made her way back to the stage; she opened the paper to her gaze scanning her eyes through. My head was filled with questions, once more as I tried to wonder who the man with a fox mask was. I stared at him deeply wondering why he seemed familiar. And that instant, his eyes met mine. At first, I thought I was imagining things but when they winked I knew I wasn’t. Daxon growled staring at him with a devious gaze, with my brows wriggling in confusion. “I can’t believe they’re at it again,” Destiny said. “What?” I let out. “Both of them,” “What do you mean?” “The King and the head Yellow,” Destiny explained. “There is always a disagreement between them. They fight, claw, and swoosh magic on each other,” “Why? How do you even know this stuff?” I asked, in wonder. “Let’s just say I keep my ears within the walls and read extensively back at my pack.” Destiny retorted, smartly. As time went on, she gave me reasons not to trust her. But I knew that to know more, I had to play along. “Reading and gossip surely has it perks,” I uttered. “You can go on,” “Sure, you know the Yellows are geniuses. They curate most of the Games, and are foxy in nature. This makes them clash with the Purples sometimes.” “I understand but why the clash? Aren’t the Yellows helping the Kingdom, they curate the Games,” I said. “Good point, but rumors say the rank heads had the same love interest, centuries ago.” Destiny explained. “I guess some scars remain no matter the time passed,” “Yes, they do, especially when you let them get to you,” I said, in thought of my dad. He certainly got to me. I’ll never be able to forget that he abandoned me. Or dismiss the fact that I was wolfless. And it was the reason my whole family turned upside down. But it didn’t make sense. If the King and the head Yellow were in disagreement because of a woman, why wasn’t she anywhere around? “And the woman?” I asked. “She’s dead,” Destiny whispered. “I don’t believe it though. The King cherished her, she was his mate. And there was no way she would pass away without it breaking him. When she died, the servants noticed he was okay,” “Hmm,” This was suspicious, I thought wondering what kind of mate moved on after his other half’s death. Maybe he was not the kind of man I thought he was. “How about the Yellow? How did he react?” “The head Yellow treated it with great disappointment. He played his instrument by the pond, in a heartbroken stance laced with sorrowfulness for not cherishing his mate when he should have,” “They were both her mates?” I let out, in confusion. “No. This was the thing. The Yellow head was mated to her first but due to their rank differences, he rejected her. She begged and begged that he didn’t, but he wouldn’t budge, flaunting a woman as his fiancée.” she added. “Not until her second chance mate showed up, the Purple head, King Daxon,” “And then what happened next?” “The King publicly accepted and mated her as his Queen, leaving the Yellow head in intense heartbreak. He grovelled, and begged she accepted him back,” “And what did she say?” I asked eagerly. “I don’t take used leftovers; a relationship with your Queen is treason. So you choose this moment, act right, or ready your head for a public execution,” I chuckled instantly and unfortunately Lady Peach halted her footsteps as she walked to the stage. She directed her gaze at me, saying, “Anything funny?” “No… No, my apologies,” I was quick to say, looking around to see everyone staring. By the time she walked to the stage, they had disconnected their eyes from me, making me puff out air. Crazy. She made some sound from the microphone, which tamed the murmurs resonating from everyone. “Welcome back, citizens of KOTA.” Lady Peach chimed in. “Please pay attention as I read the rules. In this level, the selected virgins are sent to retrieve the Golden Egg of the century Dragon.” “The Golden Egg is a symbol of unity between all supernatural creatures.” Lady Peach added. She ran her eyes through the paper before continuing, “For centuries, the Golden Egg of the Dragon has been searched for by Great Philosophers and Masters of Art. However, none has found it.” she looked at with an assured expression, before continuing. “A recent finding says that the Dragon Egg lies in the Magical Forest, and was hidden by Elder Tao the Great Philosopher of the Seven Seas. In his apprentice’s words, he hid the Egg to prevent it from reaching the wrong hands.” “Each of you will be allowed to pick hints from a box and will be given maps for direction, and water with a requirement to hunt for food. Please note, that there are uncanny beings you should be wary of,” she added. I flinched, looking around only to see the girls murmuring in panic. “Uncanny beings? Are you saying the forest is haunted?” Madeline asked. “Yes, it is,” Lady Peach replied, taking a deep breath before continuing, “This is why you were given weapons. Eliminate any threat that comes your way, with no gamer restrictions,” “We are allowed to eliminate ourselves?” Samantha asked Madeline, in a whisper. “Good, I’ve been looking for a way to get rid of someone,” Madeline replied, staring at me. I narrowed my eyes wondering how anyone could be so cold.
