She still hadn’t said a word to me, but she had started speaking to Lucien in soft, halting fragments. That was something. Progress. Even so, I couldn’t stop thinking about what Marielle had said—that Raye’s drawings brought misfortune. As ridiculous as it sounded, part of me believed her even though there was no proof of that.
