Chapter 22
When they returned to the hotel after their meeting with Singh, Harry sent a message to Esther, but they didn’t connect. (Back then, Safaricom didn’t provide voicemail.) He wanted to tell her what they’d learned and get her reactions, but he hadn’t yet sorted out whether they were destined to be business partners or lovers or both. He didn’t feel as though he owed her an apology, but he knew she didn’t think she was in the wrong. And she’d be too proud to call him, even if she did.
While Aldo conferred with persons unknown via phone, Harry went back to the room for his second refreshing shower of the day, as if a purifying cleanse was necessary after being in a room with all that murdered wildlife.
Harry lunched with Aldo where they’d had breakfast at the Thorn Tree Café. As
