Pauline had no interest in seeing the McAdie house, and neither did Esther, for different reasons. Pauline knew McAdie had never rented the place before, so she expected he’d be difficult. And because Veronica had placed herself in the middle of the transaction, Pauline was not at all sure she’d get her commission. So she wasn’t about to encourage success. As far as Esther was concerned, she wasn’t eager to do business with any friend of Veronica’s. Besides, it was Saturday, and she had promised to take her kids to The Hub, the classiest shopping mall in Karen, as a reward for high test scores. Harry offered to loan her his credit card, but she informed him Victor would be paying those expenses. He’d given her a debit card loaded with a budgeted amount.
