THE SILENT WITNESSES

648 Words
Miles away, in the quiet of his private study, Alexander sat in the dark. The only illumination came from a wall of monitors. On one screen, he watched the feed from the hotel room hallway. He watched Becky pull a limp, unconscious Kelvin into the suite. He didn't flinch. He didn't look away. His phone buzzed. It was a live alert from his security team. “he has crossed the line, sir. should we make it public. Henry said. Alexander’s expression was a masterpiece of cold, controlled fury. He didn't care about the act itself—that was simply a tool to destroy the last shred of loyalty Rose had for the man. What mattered was the fallout. "Not yet,"Alexander whispered to the empty room. He tapped his phone, pulling up the feed of Rose’s apartment. She was still sitting at the kitchen table, the cake untouched, her phone gripping so tightly in her hand that her knuckles were white. She looked small, fragile, and utterly broken. He stood up, his tall frame silhouetted against the glow of the monitors. He reached for his coat, his movements precise, deliberate. "Henry,"he called out, not turning around. "Yes, sir?"Henry replied. "Prepare the car. I believe it is time for me to pay Miss Rose a visit. She has suffered enough waiting for a man who is currently occupied elsewhere."he thought to himself. Alexander walked toward the door, his eyes dark with a possessive fire. He wasn't just going to console her. He was going to ensure that by the time the sun rose, Kelvin would be nothing more than a memory, and Rose would be entirely his ,his.He stood before the heavy wooden door of Rose’s apartment, his hand hovering just inches from the surface. From inside, he heard the faint, distorted echoes of high-pitched sobbing. Every instinct in Alexander’s body screamed at him to kick the door down and shield Rose from the toxic mess unfolding in her in life. He wanted to be the hero who ended her suffering in a single, decisive move. But then, he froze. He pulled his hand back, his fingers curling into a fist at his side. He looked down at his reflection in the polished brass of the door handle. He saw a man who had spent weeks manipulating the shadows around Rose, a man who had played God with her life from a distance. If he walked through that door now—with his terrifying aura, his entourage, and his cold, overwhelming power—he wouldn't be her saviour. He would be just another monster in her life. If he intervened now, he would terrify her. He would break the fragile, quiet dignity she was trying to maintain. She was a woman who valued honesty and hard work, and the last thing she needed was to realize she had been under surveillance by a man like him. "Sir?" Henry whispered from the hallway, sensing his master's hesitation. Alexander took a long, slow breath, forcibly calming the storm of violence rising in his chest. He closed his eyes for a heartbeat, composing his face back into the mask of the untouchable CEO. He stepped back, retreating from the door, his movements fluid and silent. He gestured for Henry to follow."He didn't look back at the apartment. He descended the stairs, his heart heavy with a strange, unfamiliar restraint. " Henry," he called. "Yes, sir," Henry replied. "Make sure my men stay in the hallway. If he touches her—if he lays a finger on her—the protection protocol is over. Break his hand. "He said. "Understood, sir." He replied. Alexander walked out into the cool night air, leaving Rose inside, unaware that her "destiny" had just stood at her door and decided to wait for the perfect moment to own her future.
