Moon PitDoc Savage awakened slowly, as from a sleep, but there was a strong subconscious impression that it had been a long time since he fell gassed. His watch had stopped. It had run down, and not broken, he saw, and realized this meant he had been out at least twenty–four hours. How much longer was problematical. Doc felt very hungry. At least a three–day hunger feeling, he estimated. But even that was deceptive, because unconscious persons can be fed while they are senseless.
