Chapter 1

It took me, Diana Campbell, everything to get a full scholarship to the most prestigious university in Canada, Laval. My uncle promised to pay for university when my parents passed away because my dad's booming business, Campbell Transportation Inc. was given to him until my elder brother, James, graduated business school. However, the business went bankrupt, thus the business was closed, and my uncle was unable to pay the debts. We were forced to sell their houses and cars, but it still was not enough. My uncle and aunt worked day and night just to pay of the debt. My uncle and aunt did not have any kids of their own and raised me and my brother like we were their true kids. I love them and would never wish to be a burden to them. I always tried to be a straight A's student, get a full scholarship to Laval and be on her way to becoming a lawyer. I did all that so that my family could be proud of me and wont be annoyed by keeping me with them. I chose to live on the campus- that would lessen the burden at home- and during vacations I visited them in Toronto. The winter semester was about to end and the winter break was about to start. "Omg I cannot believe what Leo did at the party last night. He got so drunk" my best friend, Adriana, chuckled, at the snaps that were sent to her by one of her friends. Adriana was my roommate and in the time we had been together she became my best friend. She was the complete opposite of me. Adriana loved partying, she had a lot of friends, she loved dating, and she was always looked like a model.  "I wish I was there" she whined and her full lips formed a pout. She grabbed a kleenex and wiped her already red nose. "Damnit, I hate being sick. Anyways, you are leaving for Toronto tomorrow? "she looked up at me with loneliness clear in her sea blue eyes. She ran her fingers through the middle of her thick blonde hair. I nodded as a response. "I am going to miss you!!! My parents are taking me to Spain to my grandparents. At least I will get a nice tan. So, I guess I won't miss you" Adriana laughed at her joke and I joined in with her bubbly laugh. "Be sure to get a nice tan and maybe even send me videos of your flamenco sessions. Oh and do not forget to bring me some olives and olive oil fresh from Spain" I chuckled and my cheeks got even more red as she shuffled her clothes in her suitcase. My phone vibrated and she looked to see Noah, my boyfriend, calling me. "Hey! Noah, what's up?" I asked and my cheeks began to redden at hearing Noah's husky voice behind the phone. "Nothing. I am going to miss you. I wish you would come to Morocco with me. I was wondering if we could meet right now?"he asked me. I remember how I was struggling to speak to Noah when we first met. He was so popular and handsome. On the first day of my history class we were forced to be partners. Later that month he confessed to me and since then we have been dating for about a year. He was really popular with the girls but he chose me- the plainest of all the girls in the university. He was my first kiss but we had not done anything more than a kiss. I wanted to remain a virgin until marriage and gift my husband my virginity. For a second, the thought of Noah as my husband crept in but I quickly pushed away the thought. Adriana grinned at me and tried to hear what he was saying on the other side of the phone. "Yeah sure" I was still unable to believe that Noah was my boyfriend and truly loved a plain Jane like me. Noah was standing under the moonlight and his pale blond hair almost appeared white. "Hey" I showed him my iconic lopsided smile. "Hey" he reached for my wrists and pulled me into an embrace. My heart was beating so fast that maybe even Noah heard it. "I am going to miss you" he shoved his head in my neck and sniffed my dark black hair. "I am going to miss this strawberry-lemon scent of your shampoo" he sighed. He placed his forehead against mine and stared into my dark brown eyes. His blue eyes glistened under the moonlight. He angled his face and placed a soft yet passionate kiss on my lips. "I love you so much, Diana. Always be mine" my heart skipped a beat and I wrapped my arms around his neck. "I love you too" I whispered in his ears. Noah wrapped his strong, muscular arms that were due to basketball and pulled me closer to his strong chest. He slid his hands under my shirt and felt my soft, smooth skin. A moan escaped my lips closed my eyes. I loved it when Noah touched me like that. "Goodnight" Noah said as he placed a soft peck on my lips. I didn't want him to let go. "Goodnight" I pouted. I wouldn't see him for 3 weeks.                                                                            ~ I saw the familiar exterior of our small apartment, that was given to the low income families by the government, it made me want to sprint into the building and give my family a tight hug. The elevator took forever 1..2..3..4 ding. Finally! I ran towards the apartment. "Hey, Di"James, my elder brother, gave me the most awkward smile and hug ever. Usually his hugs were warm and made me teary eyed because it made me realize what I was missing. What's wrong? I made a questioning look towards James. I walked in and saw two men wearing suit, one younger and one older, sitting in the living room and my uncle sitting with his hand covering his eyes. My aunt completely avoided eye contact me. I saw papers, lots of them, on the table and there was tension in the air. What do these men want? More debt collectors!
