I had expected that the night before I set off for Kieran's parents' house to call off our engagement would be one of those sleepless, restless nights, but instead, it turned out to be the soundest and most peaceful sleep I had enjoyed in all the seven years since Sean had left this world. The next morning, rather than heading straight to Kieran's parents' house, I changed into fresh clothes and went on my own to the Pack's trauma healing center where Kieran worked, with the intention of telling him face to face that I wanted to break the engagement. Before setting out for the center, I made a stop at the market to pick up a few gifts. As I was about to step onto the beast carriage that would carry me there, I walked past a dining hall where some of my fellow Pack members had gathered.
