Chapter TwoGiving Myself to Hannah Oh, does she have so much to answer for. I left school at the end of the following term at Christmas, having landed a place for the following October at one of the leading Universities and also with a reasonably generous bursary to help finance it. The course I had chosen was to prove to be much closer to what I wanted in comparison to the one offered at Cambridge as the latter was too theoretical and mathematical, whereas the one I studied for involved a lot of fieldwork and other support subjects and not only in my main discipline. I am jumping ahead of myself though as I had ten months “off” which now get referred to as the “Gap Year.” My parents gently kicked me out of the house and, in retrospect, I thank them for that as, whatever school one go
