Chapter 5

902 Words
“I'm Casper," The one with grey eyes said “This is my brother Wave," he said gesturing to the one with green eyes " That is our best friend Robert." These men were very handsome men, I thought that Mr Shawn was goodlooking but seeing them now, I wondered if it wasn't a crime to be so attractive. “Why did you save me?." I asked them, my voice was shaky. “I mean, you must have had more important things..." I said to them, I knew that I was not sounding grateful but internally I felt forever indebted to Robert for bringing me here from the park. All three of them exchanged glances and then the room fell really silent. I must have said something wrong because Casper's face was now pale, Robert's curvy lips were now hard and Wave's eyes lost it's softness. “I have paid your hospital bill. The doctors would give you some medicine to help you get better, you can stay till you feel better, they wouldn't charge you a dime." Robert said. Wave was the first to leave the hospital room. “But... Wait..." I called after the three men but they left the room like they were trying to run away from an armed terrorist. “I didn't even say thank you." I said, too late, they were long gone. ROBERT'S POV MIDNIGHT It was raining again just like that day. I could not sleep, it's been thirteen years. I heard my phone ringing, I saw that it was Wave calling me, I answered the call. “Where are you?!." Wave asked me, intensity filled his voice. “I am at home. Why?." I asked him. " Nothing. I was just calling to make sure you don't do anything stupid, this time." Wave said. This same time last year was what he was referring to as last time. He had saved me from jumping over a bridge. “We lost her too that day, it would not be fair If we loose one more person. Casper is drunk tonight, he didn't want to take my calls so I went in search for him and found him slumped in a bar..." Wave said. He sounded tired. " What about you Wave, you're dying as much as we are." I accused. " I lost my sister in a park thirteen years ago, I was told to look after her and I failed, she was just eight years old. I've spent my entire life making up for it, I would never be able to recover!." Wave said. It was thirteen years ago. I had a sleep over with my best friends, in their house. Emmaline, Wave and Casper. We were all from wealthy families. Their parents were multi billionaires and mine too. We were children of well respected and influential people, and we were all destined for greatness. Emmaline was just eight years old, I was twelve, same as as Casper, Wave was thirteen. Everybody knew that I was in love with Emmaline, if you asked me she was quiet unable to comprehend her emotions because she was eight, but she loved me too. It was love at first sight, I told my mother about it and she accused me of being delusional. Maybe you just like her… it's infatuation…It's just affection, I heard over the years from the very first time I mentioned it and it led to being called an obsession. “You're obsessed with her, you need to stop seeing her!." My mother would yell but time and time again, I would not stop. I wanted to keep her safe, I wanted to be there for her, nobody would ever hurt her as long as I was around. That very morning I woke up too late. Emmaline had gone out with Wave and her parents but they returned without her. For days I did not sleep. She could not have disappeared, but she did, according to Wave there were lots of people in the park and he just turned around for a second, when he looked back Emmaline was gone. They searched for her to no avail. One year led to two, then three, then thirteen. I ended the call and I ventured out into the night. I went to my Main office in the city's central. “Boss, you're here this night?." The security asked me as he pushed the elevator button. The building of my main office was a ninety storey sky scraper. I went into my office and I sat on the chair staring out through the window. Finally, I decided to leave after two hours and I found myself in the park where Emmaline got lost, I had asked my parents to shut down the park, so it had been empty for more than a decade. It was morning already. I could see a young lady laying on the bench. Was she homeless, was she dead?. I asked myself because it was impossible to sleep through the rain, it was obvious she had slept there because she was soaked. Her hair was dark, I wouldn't have guess that it would be light blonde when it dried. I woke her up, I was captivated by the alluring and seductiveness of her blue eyes. She mumbled something and she stood up. “Emmaline?." I whispered as she fell to the floor.
