Chap 12 – A Reminder Call

1246 Words
EKON POV       Owen and I sat in a finance meeting to confirm out new project. The room was filled with people discussing back and forth but nothing caught my ears as I kept drifting away thinking of Eva. I kept checking my phone pretty often hoping for a call. However, the only calls and messages I have been receiving has been from Bec that I have solemnly ignored throughout the week.       The night when I left the beach house, I felt restless called my guys and had them keep an eye on the house and to notify me once she returns. But it has been a nerve-racking week. I have not received any positive update from the guys and she has not returned till now. I went back to the dock every night waiting for her again but even that was proven futile. Though the hope of seeing her again dims in my heart, there was still the spark that was burning strong enough to keep me going back again.       I excused myself from the meeting and left the room leaving Owen in charge. I just needed my space. I entered my office with my jacket in hand and tie loosen. I laid on my couch and played the only song in my playlist with my air pods in my ears. I wasn’t able to see her features the other night but I somehow feel that she might be the girl from dream. Her song was in a loop as it lulled me…       ‘…her eyes look at me. “you are here?” her eyes smile sadly. “now you know. You shouldn’t be her. Go… please…” her beautiful eyes beg of me as it teared. Her amber eyes have lost its warmth as she looks at me. I stay mum watching her as her eyes slowly loses its light. I’m unable to process her words. My heart breaks at the sight of her. I reach for her but butterflies take her place in an instant. I fall to knees calling out to her but not a voice is heard…”       My leg falls to the ground and in an instant, I sit up with my hand at my chest. A hand on the should zaps me to my surrounding. Owen stood talking to me with concern in his face but only Eva’s voice filled my ears. I quickly got to my feed and walked to the glass window removing my air pods discreetly.   “Ee? Are you okay? You don’t seem like yourself” he asks. His voice is filled with concern and I’m curious to know what made him concern.   “I’m fine Owen. What makes you think otherwise?”       “Well you never cried. At least not that I have seen you cry before” he says. In an instant my hand reaches for my face and indeed there was tear that slid down my face. The dream. That’s what caused it. Remembering the dream, I feel as if it is a message. I quickly wipe it away and played it cool.   “My eyes been burning with sleep.” I said keeping it short so he doesn’t ask further. He scrutinized me for a second before he let it go.   “I suppose so, seeing that you were deep asleep in your office which you never do by the way. You were also not responding to me as well. I had to nudge your leg awake.” That explains how my leg fell.    ‘’You sure…” I raised a finger to him as he started again but interrupted when my phone rang. “Hold that thought its Mike” I say.   “Mike?” “Ee. Why aren’t you here yet? I thought you wanted to meet Eva” Eva? She’s at the club? I look at the watch and it is five minutes to half past nine. “Wait. Have you already met her?” “No. I haven’t. On my way right now. Stall her for me.” I say. I hang up before he can reply.    “I’m going to the club. You coming?” I ask Owen. I ignore his frown at me.    “Sure” he says from behind me.        I quickly cross my room, picking up my jacket as I go. I exit my room in no time. The second the elevator opens to the car park dash to my car and rush out of my building onto the road. I try to cut through the traffic to get to the club on time but it looks like lady luck is testing me time and again. For the first time I curse the purpose of a luxury or sport cars. The maximum speed and agility of a vehicle does not serve its purpose when you’re stuck in a bloody traffic.        “s**t” I slam my palm on the steering as my patience run out. I keep glancing back and forth from the road to my watch. “How could I forget. She sings at the damn club on Fridays. Aaargh” I grit my teeth in frustration. I look into my rear-view mirror and realise that Owen is on my tail. The moment the clock struck ten I was irritated with myself.         At five past ten I pulled up at the entrance of the club and jump out of my car with Owen right behind me. I didn’t bother to turn off or park my car. I hear Owen order the valet to park both our cars as I dashed into the club. The moment I get a view of the stage I back tracked my steps and dashed out the entrance. I crashed into Owen roughly causing him to lose balance. I quickly steadied him and continue my race towards the back alley. I could hear Owen calling for me now from a distance. I reached the alley and she wasn’t there. I scanned the surrounding franticly hoping to catch her somehow but she was nowhere to be found. I hear footsteps running towards me. Wishing it was her I turn only to come face to face with both my friends.   “f**k” I let out in frustration kicking a small stone.   “Who are you after?” Owen asks panting. I just shake my head trying to catch my breath.   “I’m sorry man I tried to stall her but she said she had to go. She had people waiting to drive her” Mike said. I pat his shoulder in a gesture to thank him.   “Who are we talking about?” Owen questioned curiously as he was not in the loop of what happened last week.        We walked our way back to entrance when a light switched on in Mike as he said “but… she did say and I quote- please tell HIM that we’ll meet soon. But the question here is that I never mentioned to her if the person whom is interested in meeting is a HIM or HER” he questioned more to himself.        I stopped in my track causing Mike and Owen to walk pass me. They turn to me when I do not answer. I smirk at them at the possibility of knowing where to meet her now that she is back and SHE KNOWS. They were surprise to see the change in my expression. Before they could question my behaviour, I take of jogging to the valet. “Jack, get my car now” I say pointing at car park urgently. He grabs my key and takes of running.       “Hey. Is there something we need to know?” Owen asked. I smirk at them with a tilt of my head. I stride to my car as I see Jack pull up. “Nothing” I shrug at them as I get into my car and head on to the main road.
