EKON POV
“So, do you want to tell me why do I have a high profiled stalker on my tail?” she asks.
It took me a second to understand her question. I look at her seconds before I laughed out loud and it felt good. It’s has been almost 10 years since I laughed heartily.
“High profile I know but I’m sure not a stalker. I’m genuinely interested in getting to know you”
She looks at me for a moment before she looks away. In that brief moment I was able to identify different emotions running through her. She fisted her hands as grips the sleeve of the jacket pulling it tighter around her stomach. Odd. I just got to be patient until I get to know her better.
“Well the indications I see says otherwise” she says calmly.
“Indications?” Now I’m seriously confused.
“Yup” she says with a childish tone while looking at me then quickly look away when she realised what she did. Cute.
“I believe you asked for me at the club. The bouncers and owner I mean”
Remembering the first day I questioned Kyle and today when I asked Mike to hold her back. “Guilty as charged ma’am” I answered with a British accent. She giggles softly.
“and the calls to the book store?” she asks again and I nod my answer. She took a deep breath as if preparing for the worst.
“Then I believe it is you who have people watching me, also a break in through the unlocked pet door when I wasn’t home. Correct?” she looks at me.
I must say she fits the quote ‘beauty with brain’ perfectly. She is very attentive to her surrounding as well. I observe her expression and there was no fear or judgement in her eyes. She knows all of this and hasn’t called the cops yet. She has not showed and resistance towards me. Now I’m curious about my Angel.
“You’re on point with your information but I don’t see you running the other way. For all you know I might be bad news” I say coldly.
She doesn’t even flinch at the tone of my voice. She just chuckles then looks me in the eyes and explains her views.
“If you were bad news you would not have left loose ends, particularly when you are a meticulous person yourself. I mean questioning the bouncer without bribing him to seal his mouth? Doesn’t seem like something you would do. Call to the bookstore, I suppose from your personal phone. Assuming I’m going to do a background check the call would trace your number. Am I right? Open surveillance in a close neighbourhood is also not a smart thing to do. The break in without a single thing lost or misplace.” I’m officially surprise as I nod every single this she said with wide eyes. I don’t think I can comprehend my feelings right now.
“I don’t think the aim was to harm me. Moreover, if you really had an evil bone in you, you would have personally made your move the first day you saw me on this dock the other night” she says with glint of happiness of getting it right. My jaw hits the ground as I’m dumbfounded. I’m officially in love with this woman.
“How…” I ask. She did not wait for me to finish my question as she got the gist of my query.
“Your phone might have been in mute but you forgot that your phone gave off a light from your screen illuminating the darkness around you” she says.
“s**t…” I literally facepalmed myself as she let out a soft laughter. If my silly has made her laugh, then I don’t mind being the fool that I am when around her.
“I’m sorry. Now that you mention it, I do feel like a stalker but trust me when I say that I’m no-” I rambled on.
“I know. Don’t worry” she says genuinely. How can she be so sweet and trusting?
“Thank you. Now may I know your name?” I ask.
“Didn’t your PI check it out for you?” she asks with a glare than flinches. She is not used to being harsh to people that was as clear as day but I admire her trying to put on a tough front.
“No Eva. I only got your first name from Mike. I could have found out about you by hiring a PI but I wanted to know you the traditional way,” I said looking at her with all sincerity.
“I will give you my name if you promise to not snoop around. Deal?” she asks.
“Deal” I agree.
“I’m Eva Luna Reece. It’s a pleasure to meet you Ekon” she extends her hand.
“The pleasure is mine Luna” I say. She gasps softly as I take her hand and plant a soft kiss on it. My Angel Luna.
********
I toss my pen on my table satisfied. I’ve just completed working for the past four days with an hour of power nap every 12 hours. It has proven extremely difficult for me to keep my mind off Luna. It just tends to think of her by default.
It is difficult for me to be impressed by someone. Call me unjust, but I’m completely impressed and smitten by her. She is so calculative, attentive and intelligent. Her delicate amber eyes are just so unsettling. It holds an unspoken pain and worry. I just wish I could wipe away her worries. No matter the state, it has the power to create a tornado of feelings at the same time calm me.
I was pretty upset when I had to leave her abruptly to attend to an emergency case at work. I chuckle remembering our last exchange before I made her cheeks flame in red with a kiss to her forehead.
“Luna?” she asks.
“Yes, Luna. The name suits you perfectly. In fact, the first time I actually saw you was under the moonlight, and Luna is a Latin word for Moon,” I smile.
“Hmm” she nods shyly.
Before I could ask her further, my phone rings disturbing the serenity around us. She chuckles as I sighed. Before I could fish for my phone from my pocket, she reaches for it from the inner pocket of my jacket and hands it for me. Seeing it is from office I rub my forehead.
“Aren’t you going to answer. It would be important if someone calls at this hour,” she asks.
As usual. There is always something to interrupt a very memorable moment and yet I just don’t have the heart to leave her this moment when I’ve just found her. Excusing myself I answer my phone still seated beside her.
“Luna, I’m sorry. I would like to get to know you more but I’ll have to get back to office. There is a situation that needs my immediate attention,” I say. She nods in understanding.
“I’m sure it is important. I hope everything is fine though,” she says thoughtfully.
“I’ll handle it Luna,” I say as I pass her my card. “Do mind I if I get your number just to keep in touch?” I ask sheepishly.
She looks at me for a moment before replying politely, “I don’t like to carry around a phone with me,” she pouts and my eyes focuses on her lips as I smile. She widens her eyes and blush when she realised that she was pouting and quickly adds, “but I’m sure you by now you know when and where to find me.”
I laugh out as I lean into my chair and cover my face with my palm remembering her cute expressions. A cough interrupts my thoughts. Dragging my hands lower to cover my smile, I see Owen and Liya at my door looking at me. They exchange a puzzled look before focusing on me again. I put on my bossy face “What?” I ask.
“Liya, get us coffee and please make his really strong” Owen says. With a simple reply Liya was out of my office.
Strolling in further into my office, “I see you’ve gone nuts working 100 hours straight with minimum rest,” he says now sitting on the chair across my table.
“Nothing of that sort” I say.
“Then, care to explain the laughter. Especially after we have just settled a four-day crisis?” he asks.
I just shake my head and ignore his question as Liya comes bearing our coffee. The second Liya is out of my door, Owen props his elbow on my table enthusiastically, ‘’has this got to do with a certain Friday adventure?” he asks.
I grab my coffee and swirl my chair to cover the smile growing on my face by the mere thought of Luna.
“Well, I now have my answer” he says reading my actions. “Any progress?” he asks?
I swirl my chair to face him again and told him flat, “There is nothing going on. Therefore, to answer your question, no progress. We just spoke and you know what is actually new to me? She found out that I have been keeping tabs of her. Every single one of it.” I smile.
“Wow the first woman to figure you out and make you smile,” he smirks smugly. “That is seriously news for all of us,” he says.
“Do you know someone who doesn’t like to carry around phone?”
He shakes his negatively, “Who doesn’t?”
“She doesn’t. That’s who.” I answer and both of chuckle together.
Owen abruptly stopped laughing and eyed something behind me. I raised an eyebrow in question. “Ee, why do you have a second suit jacket when you’re already wearing one?”
I just shrugged in response ignoring his question. It was the same jacket Luna wore and I enjoy her lingering smell on the jacket but Owen doesn’t need to know that. On my phone buzzed with an incoming call. I saw the screen and ignored call then tossed softly on my table.
“Becca huh?” he asked. I just nodded at him.
“Man, you she is going to throw a fuss when she learns your new status. She’s been throwing tantrums at all of us recently,” he said.
“I have already told her that I’m not interested any longer so, I don’t really give a damn,” I answered as I answer my secretary’s call.
“Sir, Ms. Watson is marching to your office without my approval,” she asked worriedly.
“I’ll handle it,” I say as my door is thrown open.
