Finding My Other Half

1042 Words
Mars Point of View: I had just found my mate and couldn't think straight. The whole scene happened so perfectly and then quickly turned sour. I was at the park with a few of my pack members, to resolve the issue of the park encroaching in on our land, private land that is where my pack lives. The park has been rapidly expanding these last three years, and to our dismay, one of their newest attractions, a fifty-five foot high tumbling rollercoaster, can be seen from the edge of our territory. If we could see it as high up in the air as it is, then someone is bound to catch one of us mid shift when they are up there. Once the view of the coaster came to our attention, I immediately banned anyone from shifting within fifty square yards from the area. My pack, the Dark Forest Pack, has three hundred members, and is increasingly expanding. We are a strong, wise and resourceful pack. The Dark Forest Pack is well-known in the wolf and supernatural world. Not only have we grown to nearly a thousand in number, but we also run several successful businesses. Not only in the town of Jameson, but around the world. I am proud to be the Alpha of such an amazing pack, we have so much and have done so much in the last fifty years. Yet I have always felt that there was something missing from my life. There is this emptiness inside of me, like the glass of my world is only half full. It wasn't until five years ago that I came to realize what that emptiness was and what could fill it up. When my beta, Marco found his true mate Dana, he was nervous and scared. With all of the horrific things he has done in his life, he didn't think that someone as sweet and loving as Dana would be right for him. As months went on she began to peel back the roughness and see the man Marco truly was, and the kind-hearted soul that lies within. Marco never liked showing his soft side, and would at times claim that he didn't have one. But with Dana's persistence and caring nature, he began to let it show to others, aside from me. During our full moon ceremony a few months later, Dana gave Marco the news that she was expecting, and he literally fainted from the amount of joy he felt. It was quiet funny seeing someone as big as Marco; who is the size of a brown bear, faint face first onto the grass. But it was also the revalation I needed to find out what exactly I was missing: my mate, my other half. Since then I have been determined and focused in finding her. On any business trip pack or non-pack related, I tend to stay a day or two longer at that place, in order to find her. For the last five years, I have not been fortunate enough to even come close. Finally on this day, in which I was focused solely on my pack, and not myself -- she just runs right into me, literally. The Moon Goddess sure is funny like that. As Shanea's eyes met mine, all the longing and loneliness of the past five years evaporated in an instant. There she was, as beautiful as he remembered from his dreams. But this was no dream -- she was real, flesh and blood, standing before him. My heart swelled with joy and relief. At last, after years of longing, my mate was in his arms for the first time, well arms length at least. As I gazed into Shane's eyes, a flood of emotions washed over me. For so long I had searched, yet dared not hope he would find her. And now here she stands, more beautiful than any dream or vision. "Shanea Rae," I breathed, drinking in the sight of her face, committing every detail to memory at last. A thousand questions swirled in his mind, but in that moment words seemed inadequate. All that mattered was that she was real. And yet I could still scarcely believe it. As I gazed upon Shanea, I was overwhelmed by a dizzying array of emotions - joy at having found my mate at last, relief that his long loneliness had come to an end, gratitude to whatever mystical force had brought her into my path after so many years of searching. But underpinning it all was a sense of disbelief, as if some cruel trick of fate might still tear her from my sight. I was just about to compliment Shanea on her beauty when this smug pompous boy waltzes in and begins to flirt with my mate. In front of me?! My anger arose from the bowels of my stomach as that boy continued his pageantry around my mate, like a peacock sporting his feathers. My wolf wanted to claw out his sparkly eyes. I couldn't believe this arrogant boy's audacity. Before I knew it a thunderous growl left my lips. Everyone was watching me, but I paid them no mind. Shanea was my mate, and I would not let some pup challenge my claim. After confirming that I was myself again, Cando stepped aside. Seeing that everyone was still staring in our direction, I cleared my throat and straightened my coat before saying, "Apologies, there is something in the room that seems to be disagreeing with me. I am sorry for any distress I may have caused you. If you would excuse us, ladies." I gestured in the direction of the doorway, that was right just behind my mate, and she and the others quickly moved aside to let us pass. I made a beeline for the door, but not before stopping and giving to look upon my mate one last time. I knew she could not hear my thoughts, just yet. But I wanted her to know how much I yearned for her. Before leaving I took in a quick deep inhale, sniffing the air around Shanea, to commit the smell of her to memory and then I left before I could do anything else so brash.
