Chapter Thirty Four: Two Names

906 Words

POV: Kaelira "Dorian," Ronan said quietly, "and one other man on the overnight rotation. A guard named Petyr." I felt the floor tilt slightly under my feet. "Dorian," I said. "Your own guard captain." "Yes," Ronan said, and I could hear how much it cost him to say it out loud. "He has served you for years," I said. "You trust him with everything." "I did," Ronan said. "That is exactly why he would be able to move through that dungeon without a single alarm being raised." I pressed my hand against the wall beside me, steadying myself, because the idea of Dorian, quiet and broad and always a careful step behind Ronan, being capable of murder felt like one more solid thing crumbling out from under me. "You cannot confront him," I said. "Not without proof. Not if he is truly involved."
