Chapter 2
Realizations
None of us bothered to talk the whole time we were walking out of the maze.
It was already nighttime. He bothered to remove his coat and covered me with it so that I won't get cold. He was still holding me close, and even though I'm still angry at him, there was nothing I could do aside from just letting him.
An old woman in a wheelchair was waiting for us by the door. The whole mansion was wide awake. Many were comforted and rejoiced as soon as they saw us.
“Take her to our bedroom. Help her prepare herself for dinner.”
Five maids nodded to what Kade said. They immediately went to me but I ignored them. My serious eyes darted to the old lady and Kade. He went to her and kissed her on the cheeks.
“How are you, grandma? Yes, we're fine,” Kade stopped and looked at me shortly. “Cierra is fine, I found her at the right time...”
“... thanks for waiting for us, but you should also get some rest, alright? It won't be nice if you'll stress yourself.”
The lady was looking at me. I don't have any idea what was happening but I think she wants me to come close. He noticed it too. He stood straight as he looked at me and gestured for me to come close. Even though I was befuddled, I chose to move forward.
I bent my knee. The old lady reached and held my hand. Her hands were a bit cold and shaking but I can see the relief in her eyes while she was looking at me.
“I'm fine, Grandma...” I said.
Kade was just quiet as he watched me. He also bent his knee to talk to his grandmother.
“Kade is right, it's already getting cold and you should have some rest. You don't have to worry, I didn't hurt myself or anything.”
In the end, the lady agreed. Her caretaker finally took her to her room to rest. Kade was looking at me the whole time but he wasn't saying anything.
It feels weird. I can still feel that he's angry but I just can't talk about it. This was all Janine's idea. But where is she? I wonder if Kade knows that I got lost in that maze because of her.
I was still brought to the room by the maids. There are so many questions running through my head that I might explode if I wouldn't get any answers.
“Who's the old lady from earlier?” I deliberately asked. The maids who were assisting me glanced at me.
“It's Doña Constanciana, ma'am,” one of the maids answered. “Alpha Kade's grandmother.”
Oh... so I was right.
“Why is she in a wheelchair? What happened to her?” I asked. “Pardon if I was asking too much, it's just that I really can't remember.”
They looked at each other before they looked at me. I frowned. They gave me comforting smiles as they responded.
“It's fine, ma'am. We completely understand.”
“Doña Constanciana had an accident months ago.”
“What happened?” I said.
“Someone pushed her from the stairs,” they said with a calm tone. “Up until now, no one could really tell who the culprit was. And unfortunately, after that, Doña Constanciana had a stroke.”
That sounds so bad... I could still remember her from before, but I don't really remember that much about her. That explains why she was having a hard time talking. I was pretty sure that she doesn't have any stroke back then though. She was a fine and strong lady when I first met her.
When we reached the room, they didn't waste any time and went on to remove my dress. They helped me undress the heavy and thick Victorian dress that I was wearing which just feels weird. I wasn't used to someone seeing me naked, that's why just like the first time, I refused when they offered to bathe me.
They finally left the room as per my order. I'm a grown woman and I know how to handle myself. When I finished taking a bath, a large walk-in closet was waiting for me. Inside, there was a large selection of dresses that I could pick on. But I just chose to wear a silk nightgown and a pair of comfortable slippers.
I don't really think that I had an amnesia. I know some of the people here and I deeply remember this place. I have an idea where I was probably at which can fully explain why some of the events here are not right. But no... it's impossible.
“Could it be possible that I have been transferred to a parallel world by the witch?”
I sat on the bed. I longed for answers, but I know they won't come to me especially if I won't seek them myself.
Not so long after, Kade entered the room. He didn't even bother to look at me before he began taking off his shirt. My face immediately heated up as I looked away.
“W-What are you doing here?”
My question finally grabbed his attention. “This is our room, Cierra. I need to take a bath.”
Without saying many words after that, he entered the bathroom.
I could hear the splashing of water from the inside, all of the noise didn't help to calm down my wild thoughts. I just sat quietly on the bed while I waited for him to finish.
He didn't stay in the bathroom for so long. The moment he went outside, he only got a towel covering the lower part of his body. My heart skipped a beat as my throat ran dry.
Kade sure noticed how all of this feels awkward for me. I couldn't manage to stare at him comfortably. But he didn't say anything, not so long after that, he finally got himself dressed as he got out of the walk-in closet.
“The maids said you didn't eat your breakfast,” he started. He didn't look at me as he just walked to his study table. He took out some papers and reviewed them. “You also disappeared when it's time to eat lunch and take your medicine.”
“Can you tell me what's happening to you? Do you know the dangers you might encounter before you entered that maze?”
He stopped what he was doing. Volts of electricity got on my nerves as he decides to walk to where I was. I couldn't keep my calm, in an instant, I chose to stand up so that I could face his outrage.
“Do you think I was the one who chose to put myself in that stupid maze?” I replied. “I just had an accident, I would be crazy if I'll still choose to stress myself out by going there.”
“You're not making sense! I'm having a meeting when they called and reported that you were missing. We looked everywhere for you! The whole pack was alarmed and even sought you in the deepest areas of the town!” He growled. “Do you even think of the trouble you caused?”
My heart was beating so fast inside my chest. How nice... I thought he wouldn't scold me about this earlier, turns out that he's just keeping his calm because there are so many eyes watching.
The raging anger I was originally feeling for him was now burning brighter than before. I guess, he's the same Kade after all.
“Why don't you ask Janine, huh?”
“She's the one who told me that you're missing! What's even your point?!”
My face hardened. “She's the one who brought me there! Where is she when we got back? She's hiding herself because she knows I'll point out her careless actions!”
His jaw tightened as he grabbed me in my arms. It was so harsh to the point that it hurts me, but it seems like he doesn't even care.
“You're hurting me!”
“You should stop blaming other people for your actions! She was worried about you earlier and even helped on finding you, yet you still have the nerve to blame her?!”
I cried. I'm sure that his grip on my arm would leave a mark. It was so hard.
“Kade, you're hurting me,” I said as tears continued to flow out of my eyes.
He let out harsh curses when finally, he recognized his actions.
“Forgive me— I didn't mean to—”
I took in deep breaths as I just chose to ignore his words. I went straight to the bed and covered myself with the comforter.
“Cierra...”
Suddenly, the door rang. Someone knocked as they called for Kade. He heaved a sigh before he fixed himself and went to the door.
“The food for dinner, Alpha.”
Even if I wasn't looking, I heard how they put it on the table while he assisted the one who brought the food.
“Thank you,” he said.
When the door closed and it was only the two of us again in the room, the same pressure from earlier came back again.
My stomach growled. I feel ashamed for I'm sure that he noticed it. It only made me feel bad about myself more.
He wasn't saying anything, but I felt how he sat down on the other side of the bed. I closed my eyes. Gently, Kade reached for me as he ran his hand through my arms.
“I'm sorry,” he stated. “I'm really sorry. I was moved by the situation and didn't notice that I was hurting you. I'm really sorry, Cierra. Please, forgive me.”
I didn't say anything.
“Don't worry, I'll talk to Janine about the incident tomorrow morning. But please, for now, you should get up and eat. The food is still hot. You didn't eat since morning, you should digest some food first before you can take your medicine...”
“... please.”
I removed the comforter and finally faced him. He was comforted as he looked at me. I looked away. He got up as he took a small foldable table and put it on the bed. He then began to arrange the food there. It was still indeed hot for there were smokes when he removed the lids.
“Am I supposed to finish these all?” I asked.
Kade sat on the other end of the bed as he looked at me.
“You can eat how much you want. I already ate, but if you want... I could join you.”
Without looking at him, I responded. “Join me then. I'll feel bad to eat all of this by myself... while you're just watching me.”
Kade granted my wish. We both ate that night. I was so tired from everything that had happened that day, to the extent that as soon as I finished taking my medicine, I immediately dozed off.
When I woke up tomorrow morning, Kade was already gone. I was still tired but I just can't stay lying on the bed. I want to be productive. It wasn't too late for me to realize that I was now actually on my second day here.
Everything that happened the day before wasn't a dream. I am still stuck in this weird world, and things were still the same. I took a deep breath. I need to find the witch.
“Alpha Kade was gone for a meeting with other packs, ma'am.” A butler said when I asked him about Kade.
“He said that you should take your breakfast so that you could finally take your medicine.”
I nodded. I already did. It seems like Kade knew that I'll have a hard time going downstairs to get some food, that's why he ordered some maids to bring me my breakfast in our room as soon as I woke up.
“I want to wander around the town,” I said.
As soon as I woke up and realized that Kade wasn't around, I decided to take a bath and called some maids to help me dress up.
I want to know more about the place. If some things had changed in the local town or some at least remained the same.
“As you wish, ma'am.”
I saw dozens of horses on the barn, and I thought I might be able to ride one... but I won't. The butler ordered a carriage for me.
I have some maids with me. When we began our journey to the town, they were just silent and it seems like they don't have plans to talk unless I'll be the one who'll initiate a conversation.
“Do some of you have any idea when Kade will be back?”
Still not looking, they answered. “It depends on the Alpha's schedule, ma'am.”
“Oh... his schedule must be dynamic then.”
“Yes, ma'am.”
As soon as we reached the town, I was bewildered while seeing different houses. They weren't the same as what I can remember from before. The maids helped me get down from the carriage.
“Where do you want to go, ma'am?”
I actually don't have any idea too. Just looking at the small shops in the corner confuses me. I can remember being a kid and my parents would bring me here every time we'll buy groceries. Now, it looks very different.
“Anywhere. I want to explore every shop." I didn't bring any money with me so it'll be impossible for me to buy something. It'll be wrong if I'll ask the maids for some money.
We began to look for every shop and just did window shopping since we have no choice. Time continued to pass by without even us noticing.
My eyes gleamed when I saw a giant teddy stuffed toy. It was so cute and I couldn't resist anymore when I grabbed and hugged it. The vendor who was looking at me just laughed while watching my reaction.
“It seems like the Luna wants the bear.”
My cheeks blushed as I put down the bear. “Sorry... I actually don't have money with me.”
“Oh, it's no problem! You can have the bear if you want it!” The vendor said while smiling.
I was a bit hesitant at first but he keeps initiating that I should have it. In the end, I just chose to bring it with me as I thank him fully.
“Thank you so much! You should visit the mansion if you have time, we'll be glad to have you there.”
“I would love to! Thank you, Luna, you're so kind.”
When we got back to the mansion, it was already afternoon. It also seems like it was going to rain too. I could say that I really enjoyed strolling around the town, not until I entered the mansion.
“You should tell me more!” Janine giggled. Kade laughed as he shrugged.
“Come on!” Janine held him in his arm. He was about to reply, not till he finally noticed me.
Janine noticed what was happening as she stopped too. She cleared her throat and couldn't look at me. Kade smiled as he glanced at me. His vision went down on the giant bear I was holding.
“Welcome back, honey...” He was about to walk to where I was, but I ignored him and started walking away.
“Cierra, wait!”
And he said that he would talk to her about the incident?! It seems to me that he just wants to coquet.
