Sage’s POV
I was working in the kitchen when I heard a loud scream coming from living room.
Me and other two maids who were working with me came out running, assuming someone might need help.
But the scene I saw upon reaching the living room took my breath away. Fear griped my insides and my heart began beating loudly in my chest.
Looking at the dead body of that stranger woman and seeing the Cruelty of Alpha Damien, tears rolled down from my eyes.
My eyes landed on a man's dead figure laying few feet away from the woman's figure.
He killed two people?
My tear filled eyes landed on him to find his gaze already fix on me.
All I could see in his eyes was anger and darkness.
With blood stains on his face he was looking exactly like a devil.
I gulped seeing him staring at me without blinking his bloodshot eyes.
‘why is he staring at me like this?’
I couldn’t even ponder on this thought for long as my heart trembled in pure terror when the corner of his lips turned upward in a smirk.
An evil smirk which chilled me to my bones.
Instinctively I took a step back than another causing his smirk to grew wider.
“What… happened Alpha?” I heard Beta Mason's voice.
I took a breath of relief when he moved his deadly blue orbs away from me to look at Mason.
“They dared to disobey me and were gossiping” Alpha Damien said.
By the way his breathing became heavy, his jaw clenched even more and his hands curled in fists tightly that his knuckles turned white, I knew that he is again getting angry.
But I was shocked after hearing his reason for killing them.
Martha told us on our first day that gossiping is not allowed in the pack house. It is a rule that we must follow otherwise we will be punished.
But I never thought that the punishment will be death.
He killed two people just because they were gossiping.
How cruel he is to kill someone for such a mere reason.
My chain of thoughts was broken by his calm yet dangerous voice,
“how dare they insult Amber?” he gritted through his teeth.
Amber?
Who is she? I didn’t hear anything about her. But she must be someone special for him to go to this extent just because someone insulted her.
Is she his girlfriend? Or chosen mate?
The mere thought caused my heart to clench in pain and brought fresh tears in my eyes.
“Take care of this” Alpha Damien said to Mason and began walking in the direction of stairs but not before glancing in my direction one last time.
My eyes followed his retreating figure.
I took a breath and relaxed a bit when his figure disappeared from my sight.
“Go back to work” Beta Mason commanded and everyone went to resume their work as if nothing happened.
An hour passed by but still I couldn’t take the scene which I witnessed a while ago out of my mind.
I looked around to find other maids are working without any fear on their faces as if nothing happened.
They are looking so calm and composed as if they are used to seeing such horrible scenes. While my mind is so disturb that I can’t even focus on the food I am preparing.
“You will get used to it” someone whispered slowly.
I looked to my side to find a woman of my age standing beside me.
“Huh?” I asked confused.
“You are disturb because of what you saw a while ago right?” she asked softly. For some reason she seems nice person to me. Seeing the gentle smile on her face I hesitantly nodded my head in yes.
“don’t think about it too much then you will be okay. After spending some days here you will get used to seeing such things” she said with an assuring smile on her face and patted my shoulder in a comforting way.
“Does he kill someone in every few days?” I asked her even before I could stop myself.
She nodded her head in yes causing my heart to drop into the pit on my stomach.
Even though I have heard many stories about him in the past but knowing that he kills others so easily as if their life doesn’t worth anything, scares me a lot.
Why did moon goddess pair me with a cruel man like him?
“But he only punishes those who makes a mistake. So try not to make any mistake and obey him and never disrespect him. Then you will be fine and have a good life in our pack” she said trying to reduce my fear.
I appreciate her effort and gave her a small smile.
“By the way I am Bella, and you?”
“I am Sage” I said to her.
“You are from blue moon pack right?” she asked and I nodded my head. The day when Alpha Damien attacked our pack flashed in front of my mind. Tears filled in my eyes but I didn’t let them fall.
“If you have any problem here than you can ask me. I will help you” she said. I forced a small smile and said, “thank you Bella”.
“Oh.. no need to thank me, after all we are friends now” she said.
We talked for a while. She told me about many funny incidents of her life.
Anyone can tell that she is trying to make me comfortable and I am really very grateful towards her for taking my mind away from that bloody scene and death bodies.
After some time she had to go but I really enjoyed her company.
It was dinner time. Other maids served dinner to pack member staying in the pack house.
But Alpha Damien didn’t come out of his room.
I know sooner or later I will have to serve his dinner. I hope he comes down so that I won’t have to go to his room.
But it is as if moon goddess is very angry at me for some reasons and have decided to ignore all of my prayers.
Beta Mason walked in the kitchen and told me to bring Alpha Damien's food in his room.
Fear started crawling in my each vein with each step I took in the direction of his room.
My fear for him has increased even more that I don’t even want to stay in the same room as him, even for a second.
I took few deep breaths to calm my rapidly beating heart.
‘it is just a dinner Sage. Just place the food in his room and come out as soon as possible'
Very simple right?
I tried to assure myself and knocked on the door praying internally to not receive a response.
But once again luck was not on my side and I heard his gruff voice, “come in”.
Just his voice is enough to cause a silver to run down my spine.
Even though my mind was telling me to go back and hide somewhere, I opened the door with my slightly trembling hand.
I stepped inside his room and my hold on the tray tightened in fear. I left the door open because of fear.
The air in this room is very thick and I can feel the anger radiating from his body.
He is sitting on the couch with a glass in his hand. He is drinking wine, I guessed. His legs are resting on the table in front of him.
His face is hard, eyes dark and deadly and aura around him screams danger.
Not wanting to anger him anymore, I bowed my head as a greeting.
I walked in his direction with my trembling legs, keeping my eyes down but I could feel his burning gaze on me.
I placed the tray on the table, few inches away from his feet.
I once again bowed and turn around to leave. I thanked my stars when I reached the door.
I held the knob so that I can close the door while going out but my feet froze on my place when I heard his voice, “stay”.
His voice held so much authority that I couldn’t disobey him.
I turned around to face him but didn’t have courage to look into his eyes.
'don’t be scared Sage, maybe he needs something that is why he told you to stop' I said to myself to lessen my fear.
But my fear increased tenfold and my breath hitched when he commended in his deep voice, “Lock the door”.
I didn’t move. I couldn’t.
How could I lock myself with him with my own hands.
But why does he want me to close the door?
It’s look like my disobedience didn’t set well with him as he repeated the same word, but this time more dangerously.
“Lock. The. Door. Sage”
I gulped hard and locked the door as I didn’t want to bear his wrath, at least not just because I didn’t close the door.
I stayed rooted beside the door and he kept staring at me.
The silence was eating my insides and with each passing second my fear increased.
Finally after few minutes of dreading silence he spoke, “refill my drink”.
I looked at the table and around him to find a bottle but couldn’t see.
“There” he pointed towards his bed and I saw the wine bottle on the bed side table.
I made my way towards the bed. Grabbing the bottle in my trembling hands I walked near him.
I sat down on my knees in front of him and poured the wine in the glass, he was holding. My hands were shaking badly and I just hoped that I won’t spill the content on his hand.
The mere task of refilling a glass never felt so dreading to me in the past.
Once done, I stood up and turned to leave when his voice again stopped me in my tracks, “did I tell you to leave?”
The warning laced with his voice didn’t go unnoticed by me and I once again turned to face him.
What does he want now? Why doesn’t he just let me go? Can’t he see that I don’t want to be anywhere near him?
I so badly want to get out of this room and hide myself from his unwavering gaze.
“Do .. you need anything?” I asked him when he just kept staring at me sipping his wine.
But the next word that escaped from his mouth took my breath away causing me to take several steps back as terror griped my insides and tears filled in my eyes,
“STRIP”.
