The chill breeze coming in from the window usually makes me sleep until the next morning. However, tonight, it seems my wolf has vowed not to let me sleep.
I get it, I've just given my virginity to the hottest Alpha twin, but after all the roughness of last night, I need to get some rest… to ease the pain at least.
“Wake up, Vivian!” My wolf suddenly snarls.
Her voice calls with urgency and it makes me snap out of the urge to get some sleep.
As my eyes fling open, a cold shiver runs down my spine. Right before my eyes is the Alpha prince I just gave my virginity, sitting next to the bed and sharpening a dagger with a small file.
He gets up from the chair, his green eyes cold and deadly in the dimness of the room as he stares down at me.
“Already awake,” he mutters.
“What are you doing up, Andrew?” My voice is shaky.
“I never slept in the first place,” he lets out in a chill, dead tone. “First, I've been trying to figure out what just happened between you and me tonight.”
“We're mates,” I say, forcing out a nervous smile. “That's a call for celebration.”
The corners of his mouth twist at that statement.
“Celebration? You call having an omega mate a call for celebration?”
My heart is shattered by his words.
“Andrew, I'm your girlfriend,” I squeak. “I waited six years for you to return.”
“And I used those six years to become a man, Vivian.” His words are like sharp arrows to my heart, drilling through and leaving hollows behind.
“You know simply that an Alpha can't have a weakling for a mate. I'd be anything but qualified for the throne if I have… something like you as my mate.”
My breath chokes any word I was about to say. Instead, it forces tears out of my glands. How could he say such a thing to me?
For six good years, I rejected every man that came my way. All because I had promised to stay a virgin for my boyfriend.
And now that he has taken it, I'm “something like you”?
In as much as I don't want to believe it, this is happening right before me. I know I'm not dreaming, but, oh, how I wish I was.
“You know what else has kept me up all night?” He asks suddenly.
My teary eyes widen with curiosity. What is it now?
“I've been practising the matebond rejection,” he says.
My heart slams against my ribcage. He possibly couldn't be serious.
“Andrew, you can't,” I beg.
“I have to choose a mate. Someone one who is an Alpha or Beta at least,” he says. “You, Vivian, cannot measure up to my standard.”
The pain in my heart is so much, I wish I could unplug it and throw it away, just so I won't feel that pain anymore.
“Then why did you sleep with me?” I cry.
“Why did you take my virginity, Andrew?”
“It's a promise you made to me, remember?” He smirks. “I only granted you the privilege to fulfil it. Else, you'd be nothing but your miserable self, seeking my attention as you always have.”
Yeah, he was right. But that only happened because we were in love and I grew attached to him. He was the one who asked me out in the first place.
My mind rushes back to the way our eyes widened at the party last night when we found out that we were mates.
Was that happiness on his face just a facade? A mere act to lure me into his bed and have his way with me? I would have let him have me anyway.
I get it. It was simply a smile which he only smiled back to.
He steps forward. “This mate bond favours you, Vivian, not me.”
He grabs my hand and my body trembles with fear as he pulls me down from the bed.
I land on my knees, not fast enough to pull the bed sheet over my naked body.
“Please, don't do this, Andrew. I can't stand the pain,” I beg.
“I've never heard that it killed anyone,” he says. “Don't make this any more difficult for me.”
My legs already hurt so bad from how rough he went on me last night. Adding the pain of a broken mate bone would definitely kill me.
He opens his mouth to release those words and my feet grow cold.
“I, Andrew Harden—”
“Andrew, please, stop.” I beg.
He tightens his grip on my arm. “Reject you tonight, Vivian Marshall, my mate.”
I can feel a fire rising under my belly and finding it's way to my chest.
“With the moon goddess as my witness,” he continues, “I revoke the mate bond between us.”
His eyebrows hitch and I can see that he can feel the same thing.
If I dare accept his rejection, I'm done for. I've heard stories from people who barely survived it even though they were Alphas. An omega like me would surely die.
Tears trickle down my eyes. How can he be so cold?
Even if he wants to reject me, it doesn't have to be tonight. I'm dying.
“Accept it, Vivian,” he demands. “I'll use any necessary measure to make you do that if you don't want to comply.”
Normally, an Alpha doesn't need an omega to accept his rejection before it works. I don't know if he isn't aware, but I'm surprised that part of my fate still lies in my hands.
But I heard the Alpha training turns them into some entirely different person. I always believed he wouldn't change, but not when I saw him pull out that dagger he was cleaning.
“No way,” I let out softly, my body quaking as he brings it close to my throat.
His hand is so stable as it brings the knife to my throat. I'm wondering if he has used it on people before me.
“Accept my rejection or die here tonight, Vivian. Which one will you choose?”
