Three months later…
“You can't be serious that you're pregnant for me,” Andrew's voice blares at me. “I thought you found love and comfort with my brother, so why do you think any of this matters to me?”
“You are the only man I've ever had s*x with, Andrew. This is your baby,” I sob.
“You mean, you've been my brother's mate for three months and you guys haven't smashed?” He asks, an impending laugh on his face.
“No.”
“Can't believe he's such a b***h,” Andrew sneers. “Well, if that's not my brother's child, Vivian, then I'm afraid you have to go somewhere else to find the father of that bastard in your womb.”
He flings the test results I gave him back at me. “You really should be going now. I have something important to attend to.”
The door swings open as he concludes his sentence and, to my surprise, my stepsister strolls out of the room with a white towel wrapped around her breast.
The betraying sight of her chokes my throat.
“A– Annie… What are—?”
Her eyes are nonchalant as she stares at me. All she does is simply kiss Andrew's cheek.
“I'll be on the bed waiting for you,” she whispers and heads back into the room.
My chest hurts like I've been stabbed right there.
I can't believe that my own sister is the person he'd go for, right after dumping me.
I mean, I literally grew up in the same house with Annie. Even though I was adopted and she has always seen me as a competition. But mum and dad have always trained us to behave like one blood.
“You need to go now, Vivian,” Andrew says and immediately shuts the door on me.
I clutch my chest as my breath suddenly turns into a mess of discord.
It hasn't even been up to two minutes since he went inside and Annie's moans are already flying out of the door.
What else am I doing here?
I flee the second floor as fast as my legs can carry me. I know that the next thing for me is to cry, but I won't do that outside the walls of my room.
As I get down to the first floor, I see Alex heading into his room with two big brown bags in both hands.
I halt my steps and quickly fold up the test results, tucking it between my breasts. Luckily, he doesn't notice me as he enters his room.
He shuts his door and I continue my path.
When I get to my room, I go straight to my scattered bed, pushing aside some clothes I left there.
Before I can close my eyes to sleep, a bang on my door sends it wide open and Alex appears inside the room.
His eyes are fiercely red, glaring sharp at me.
He has a folded bunch of paper, and then the moment he throws it at me, I realize that I’ve messed up.
“Alex, I can explain,” I say, walking up to him.
“Then you better start doing it,” he growls, squeezing his fists.
“I… Andrew and I… We’d slept together b–before I found out that you were my mate,” I blurt out.
“And you kept that from me all this while?” He thunders.
“I thought it was best for us. It was my first time, so I didn’t really know how to go about it,” I say.
His brows pull tight together as if something just occurred to him.
“So, that’s why you’ve been trying so hard to make me have s*x with you,” he voices out. “In the name of romantic plays. Just how much of a fool did you take me for?”
“Alex, no!”
“Thank heavens, I was just about to fall for that trap.” A half-hearted chuckle leaves his mouth. But I can feel how shattered his spirit is right now.
He sucks in a breath that lifts his chest up, then he lets it all out. “Those roses and scented candles have nothing to do in my room anymore.”
My chest feel tight. It can't end just like this. I don't love him how I love his brother yet, but I'm trying to learn.
He palms his face loudly, his shoulders jerking as a terrifying laughter shoots out of his mouth.
“I'm a f*****g fool,” he yells. “To think I was about to eat my brother’s leftover. To eat something he threw into his mouth and spat out. When is this ever going to end?”
“You know what?” He snaps, seizing my hand. “You’re a literal b***h and you deserve what bitches go through.”
In the blink of an eye, he utters the rejection words, and unlike his brother’s the mate bond shatters immediately.
A sharp pain rips through my chest and throws me on the floor, while he stands glowering over my helpless frame.
“To hell with you and your child…”
Those are the last words I hear before everything suddenly goes blank.
A week later…
I made up my mind to leave the pack. I can't bear the shame of staying in the pack with a pregnancy I can't account for.
I don't want to ruin Andrew's dream of becoming the Alpha. He can go ahead with that woman whom he thinks is better than me. I don't mind.
And as for Alex, I feel so bad that I failed him. He was right about me trying to seduce him into having s*x with him.
I only did that out of fear that I could turn out pregnant for Andrew and still be rejected by him.
I rather leave than bear the betraying sight of Andrew and Annie's face, or constantly live in fear of seeing Alex.
I choose the better option.
Twenty-two miles away from the pack, the Onyx city, lies in the heart of Orlando. It's the Lycan king's home, known to be a place where rogues run to, in order to survive.
I'll take my chances.
I join a band of rogues the next evening as they travel to Onyx city.
“It's a rough way in, lady, and you don't look cut out for this,” the driver says, glancing at me through the driver's mirror.
There are three men in the van, two ladies and two little boys, all dressed in orange coveralls to disguise as cleaners for a factory in Onyx city.
“She doesn't look cut out for this job,” one of the ladies, Becca, sneers. “It's not too late to drop her and continue the way we were.”
“I know I said she isn't, babe,” the driver says. “But we have a higher chance of getting in with her pretending to be our manager. She has the slim body fit for that role.”
“And good titties too,” one of the guys chuckles.
“We have kids here,” the other lady scolds. She looks older than Becca, but they bear an uncanny resemblance.
Becca turns to me, eyes staggering daggers at me. “You better not waver, b***h. Once you do, every single one of us will be killed on the spot.”
