“He said what?” Vern asks, astonished. “You heard me,” I reply. “He wants to ask Isabel about magic?” “Mhm,” I confirm. She leans forward in her lounge chair, pushing her sunglasses up onto her head. “Jensen?” “What?” He doesn’t look up from the notebook he’s been scribbling in this entire time. “Anything to say about that?” He shakes his head. “No comment.” She throws herself back against the chair and mutters, “Useless.” Jensen sighs, setting down his notebook. “I say, why not? I don’t see the harm in it.” Vern scoffs and even I’m a little surprised by what he said. “What do you mean there’s no harm in it. For all we know, she took the journals,” Vern argues. “I doubt that.” “I don’t. I don’t trust any of the Delgado’s for that matter,” she huffs. “I don’t know, Jensen,”
